A Nigerian police officer, Julius Adedeji has been recognised because he has allegedly never taken a bribe before....

And for that rare feat, the BBC is celebrating him as Nigeria’s ‘most dedicated police officer. He tells the broadcast service in an interview that he was surprised receiving the award because he did not know he was being watched.

He said, “I thank God that it’s recognised and I feel like putting my best more and more. A copy of the letter (from the BBC) was delivered to my office for my information, when I read through it, I was wondering could it be true? I read through the letter and I saw that it said, they wanted an institution where they can name and shame those that are not doing well and encourage the people that are doing well within the Nigerian police force, I felt so great.”

Asked if he has ever been offered money in the form of bribe, he said: “Absolutely. And even today a person offered to give me some money and I said ‘no,no,no,no why would you do that, I’m just doing my work’.”

He, however, admitted he has been tempted to take bribes. “There’s no way one would not once in a while be tempted,” he said, adding: “But I just want to do what is right.”

He also has a word for police officers — and others — who bribe is also a source of living for. “I know in my little space where I work, I’ve seen people who are going the wrong way. We’ve talked to them and told them you don’t have to do this and God will find a way to bless you when you’re doing what is right''

May Day: We’ll no longer accept politicians’ excuses – Labour leaders

The harsh working environment the Nigerian worker has to endure due to unfavourable government policies and neglect must come to

The harsh working environment the Nigerian worker has to endure due to unfavourable government policies and neglect must come to an end, Labour leaders said on Monday.

At an occasion to mark this year’s May Day in Lagos, heads of several workers’ unions lamented the sufferings their members pass through due to the poor state of the economy.

The theme for this year’s May Day rally is ‘Trade Union and the Quest for a Virile Economy: 2019 in Focus.’

“The theme for this year is very apt as it defines the position of every working citizen in this nation,” said Tokunbo Korodo, the Chairman of the Lagos State branch of the United Labour Congress.

“It showcases the report card of government which parades lack of infrastructural development, inadequate supply of power, lack of portable good water, bad housing policy, over taxation, increased price of commodities as workers are appalled and saddened by the seeming collapse of state efficiency and delivery.

“The era of siddon look has passed. We are going to match these politicians word for word, action for action. The no money excuse is no longer tenable because we see what they earn. The situation where workers don’t get paid for their work is over and that is why we are telling workers their power is their PVC to vote out anti labour governments.”

Mr Korodo said Nigeria’s problems began long ago and the inefficiency of the government should not be placed on the workers.

“It is only in this country that you rent out a shopping mall without consideration for where customers will park. If our government don’t have enough wisdom to deal with such issues then it is time for you to rise and vote them out.”

Abdulrasaq Said, General Secretary of Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals, said they would reeist the concession of Nigerian airports.

“Airport concessions cannot materialise because of security. All areas that have been concessioned turned out bad and we don’t want that in the aviation.”

Gbenga Komolafe, General Secretary of Federation of Informal Workers Organisation of Nigeria, said both the formal and informal sector are under attack.

“The minimum wage is no longer sufficient to take workers home,” Mr Komolafe said.

“We now have public markets being handed over to few private hands and the workers are displaced from their trade villages and clusters and when they try to survive on the street they are hounded saying that they don’t want street hawkers. It is time to take action on all these challenges.”

A 23-year-old worker at a fish pond in Osogbo, Abiodun Olasunkanmi, has been remanded in the Ilesa Prison for allegedly stealing a large quantity of cat fish valued at N800,000.

The police on Monday arraigned the accused before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court presided over by Mrs. O. A. Oloyade.

The prosecutor, Mr. Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 25 around 5.30am at the fish pond in the Rinsayo area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol. II, Law of Osun State, Nigeria, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and elected summary trial.

His counsel, Mr. Okobe Najite, prayed the court to admit him to bail “in the most liberal terms.”

The magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties, each in like sum.

Oloyade said the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means and provide evidence of tax payment with three recent passport photographs.

She adjourned the case till May 21 for hearing. However, the accused was remanded in the Ilesa Prison when he could not perfect the bail conditions as of the time of filing this report.

Christians Shouldn’t Swallow Trump’s Bait – MURIC Warns

BEVERLY HILLS, May 01, (THEWILL) – The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has criticised US President Donald Trump’s comments where he said

BEVERLY HILLS, May 01, (THEWILL) – The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has criticised US President Donald Trump’s comments where he said the US will not accept the attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria.

Reacting to the US president’s position, MURIC urged Nigerian Christians to “not allow themselves to be deceived by Trump” saying he misfired by making the statement and alleged that he “is only using religion to turn Nigeria into another Iraq”.

MURIC warned Nigerian Christians against “swallowing Trump’s bait”, else the West African sub-region will “be shaken to its foundation”.

In a statement on Tuesday, Ishaq Akintola, director, MURIC, said Trump’s statement “is prejudiced, parochial and unpresidential”.

“It is sheer interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign nation. Trump has a bully’s instinct,” the statement read in part.

“If this is the same Trump who called African countries ‘shithole’, the same American president who threatened to wipe out North Korea, the same US leader who banned Muslims from entering his country, the same Republican who said, “Torture works, ok folks?”, Nigerians must be wary of America’s involvement in their affairs.

“We should remember that Nigeria did not get the required support from the moderate and cool-headed Barrack Obama in its war against terrorism. We should therefore not expect any from Trump who treats vulnerable nations with contempt and has no respect for African countries. Unless Nigerians unite, this country will become America’s ‘shithole’.

“Trump’s comment on killings in Nigeria implies that he would prefer that it is Muslims alone who are being killed. We refuse to believe that a whole American president does not know the true situation on ground in this country. He who knows but pretends not to know has his own secret agenda. Nigerian Muslims are not intimidated by Trump’s comment. We only sympathise with those who will be gullible enough to become Trump’s ‘suckers’. Posterity will judge us.

“Nigerian Christians should not allow themselves to be deceived by Trump’s comment. The advanced countries of today will not compromise the secret of their technological advancement. Western countries will not teach us what will benefit our people. They will only teach us what will divide us in order to further render us debilitated, impoverished and helpless.

“Nay, they will give us fish but refuse to teach us how to fish. They will scatter us like wild oats and then give us weapons to kill ourselves. Then, under the guise of rendering humanitarian services, they will take over our land, our oil, our rich culture and force homosexualism and lesbianism down our throats but at that time, it will be too late to resist. Mark our words.

“Trump is only using religion to turn Nigeria into another Iraq. Just as former US President Bush used Sunni-Shiite dichotomy to destroy Iraq just to lay his hands on Iraq’s oil field, Trump is also eyeing Nigeria’s oil. His plan is to use Christian-Muslim divide to set Nigeria ablaze. But Nigerians should remember that decades after the invasion of Iraq, that country is yet to experience stability. Years after the killing of Ghadaffi, Libya is yet to find its feet. The guns are still booming in Syria and the world holds its breadth each time North Korea sneezes.

“It is our contention that Trump is luring Nigerian Christians into bolder confrontation with their Muslim neighbours. We warn that the West African sub-region will be shaken to its foundation if Nigerian Christians swallow Trump’s bait.”

Davido Reveals Desire To Spend Eternity With Chioma

DMW boss, Davido, is about to break the internet with his song, Assurance, which is coming just after his romantic gesture

DMW boss, Davido, is about to break the internet with his song, Assurance, which is coming just after his romantic gesture where he was seen professing his love to his longtime girlfriend, Chioma, a girl that has recently caught the attention of social media.

To show his love and appreciation for his girlfriend, the singer had sealed his lover’s 23rd birthday with a new single and a 45 million Naira Porsche, a sign of his love and assurance for Chioma.

This seems to be an act to show the world that Chioma is not just another girl, rather she is a special girl and he is not scared to open his heart completely and totally to her as he has resigned to spend his life in the arms of Chioma.

To drive this point home, Davido while celebrating Chioma’s birthday stated that he’s not one of those guys that are scared to show their women love, áfterwhich he went further to tweet;

“Show love to your lady ❤ that’s the real assurance challenge”

Although some people believe this confession is too sudden from Davido as most are just hearing about Chioma but Davido replied the fan stating that he has been dating Chioma for five years and if that is too small, then it is indeed sudden.

Assurance video is already a hit fans are jamming and from the way things are going, this song and the events leading to it will be on people’s lips for a long time.
