Huge claim made about Liverpool and Barcelona

Fear Liverpool will not fall into the same trap as Barcelona in the Champions League tonight as they don;t play

Fear

Liverpool will not fall into the same trap as Barcelona in the Champions League tonight as they don;t play with the same amount of fear.

That’s according to Charlie Nicholas, who thinks that the club will be more resilient than Barcelona and won’t fall into the same traps when it comes to being scared of the physicality Roma have.

He also noted that Liverpool cannot give off fear – or they will have huge problems but that the Reds will get their away goal.

“I covered both of Roma’s legs against Barcelona on Soccer Special and it was similar in terms of them being a defensive wreck in the first leg, but they got away with kicking lumps out of Lionel Messi in the second, with the referee being a joke,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.

“They smelt Barca’s fear and they’ll do the same if Liverpool give off that feeling and the referee allows it again, but I think Liverpool are stronger than Barca.

“I was surprised Klopp played Roberto Firmino at the weekend as his work brings it all together, but I do still fancy them to score at some point.

“I am a big fan of Edin Dzeko, who my old club Arsenal should have snapped up when he left Manchester City, and I fancy him to inject some more nerves into the tie, but see Liverpool striking back to kill the tie.”

Real Madrid

Whoever progresses to the final will face Real Madrid, who may be at their weakest in years but are still a huge threat and force to be reckoned with.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo failing to net in the semi finals, they still managed to get past Bayern Munich and have now beaten the Champions of France, Italy and Germany en-route to the final – and in most people’s eyes, would even go into the final as favourites.

Big fan

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has made it very clear he loves working under manager Mauricio Pochettino and admitted that the manager’s honesty is a huge factor in why.

Dele said that he’s learnt so much by working with the Argentine, who has of course been a massively vocal defender of the player in the past, especially when he’s been criticised for diving.

The midfielder noted that the team having an English core is also important and that the vibe around the club and the players is positive.

He said to BT Sport: “For me personally, it was the right thing. You saw the amount of money the other kids were earning but, for me, it was about making the right decisions.

“You can see it now, the way the club is going. It’s stepped up in the last few years. Pochettino, you could see was playing Ryan Mason in midfield [and] I wanted to go somewhere where the manager wasn’t afraid to play kids.

“It had an English core.

“From the outside everyone can see what he’s done for the club. You’ll know as a player, you don’t need more confidence than a manager who tells you the truth.

“He’ll speak to you about your game, he’ll see it before you see it. He’ll pull you up on it, that’s one of the main things that I respect and love about him.

“It’s not always positive, he’ll tell you if you’re not working hard enough in training. Training is just as important as games.

“When I signed there, they had players who were brought in for more money but I was playing because he told me I deserved it.

“The togetherness we have as a team, he doesn’t want anyone who will bring a bad vibe or tension. If your attitude is bad, he’ll try and help you sort it out.”

Trophies

Of course, no matter how much Dele or any other Spurs player claims they love working under Poch and playing for the club, eventually they’re going to have to look long and hard at the situation, and if they’re still not winning trophies things may well change.

Toby Alderweireld is already leaving the club this summer after getting fed up of the wage structure and lack of success in terms of big trophies and it’s a decent bet to assume that will happen at some point if things don’t change dramatically.

Liverpool legend John Barnes warns Steven Gerrard not to join Rangers

From one legend to another

Liverpool legend John Barnes has told Steven Gerrard he should not take the Rangers job for one reason that could damage his reputation.

The former England captain revealed on BT Sport on Tuesday evening that he has had positive talks with the club to take over as manager.

This comes after the sacking of Graeme Murty and Gerrard looks to be the prime candidate.

Currently in the youth setup at Liverpool, this would be Steven’s chance to get into management with a club that has a very big reputation.

Though, there are also some very big drawbacks with a job such as the Rangers position.

Forget about it

That is because John Barnes has explained it would take a miracle job for Gerrard to get Rangers competing with Celtic.

He has even went as far as explaining that if Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola even went to Rangers, not even they could get them competing straight away.

‘Forget about reputation as a player,’ Barnes told Sky Sports, as cited by the Daily Mail.

‘What many have to understand is, as I mention, Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp or any other great managers going to Rangers at this moment in time, possibly would not be able to turn it around straight away.

‘So it’s not because Steven is inexperienced, it’s not because he’s not managed anyone. If he doesn’t challenge Celtic straight away it’s got nothing to do with his ability.’

“I would urge Rangers fans to give him that opportunity and have faith in him knowing that it may not happen overnight.’

“It is so unfortunate. This is a hospital where people come to for medical treatment. It is so unfortunate that somebody has decided to come and commit suicide here. At about 9:00 am, I received a call that a somebody jumped off from our fifth floor. We don’t know what he was doing there because there is no ward on the fifth floor.

Patients are not expected to be there because the fifth floor houses our museum. The fifth floor is under lock and key because of the ongoing JOHESU Strike,” he said.

Arsene Wenger confirms big team news ahead of Arsenal’s Atletico clash

Uphill task Arsene Wenger has confirmed one piece of team news ahead of their Europa League clash with Atletico Madrid

Uphill task

Arsene Wenger has confirmed one piece of team news ahead of their Europa League clash with Atletico Madrid on Thursday evening.

The Gunners face an uphill task when they travel to the Wanda Metropolitano this week trying to qualify for the Europa League final.

The scoreline on aggregate remains 1-1 after Antoine Griezmann scored a late goal to give themselves a pivotal away goal.

That goal could play a huge part in the game with the side having not conceded a goal in 13 games at home.

That means that all they need is a 0-0 and they will advance through to the final.

Team news

Ahead of the game, Arsene Wenger confirmed to the media that David Ospina will start in goal over Petr Cech.

The latter has been less than impressive anyway, but David Opsina is not an inspiring goalkeeper either.

He isn’t the only player that has been given some positive team news this week.

That is because it looks as though Diego Costa will start the game alongside Griezmann and Arsenal have never fared too well against him.

“In history, he has shown he can make differences,” Wenger explained in his press conference.

“It’s our job to keep him quiet, maybe the best way is to play in our half and not in the half of Atletico Madrid.”

Troubles on the road

The French boss was also asked about the clubs troubles away from home in the Premier League this season.

With Arsenal needing a very big performance in Madrid tomorrow, they certainly need a good away performance.

Though, Wenger isn’t worried because it is only in the Premier League that they have struggled.

“In the Premier League yes, in Europe no,” he explained.

“We have neglected a bit recently the Premier League away from home.

“Tomorrow is a game you have to focus on your performance, that is all.”
