Wike, APC In Verbal War Over Plot To Destabilise Ward Congress

Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are engulfed in a verbal war over the ward congress of the APC slated to hold tomorrow, Saturday, May 5, 2018, across the state.

While the governor has insisted that the APC is using operatives of the Special Anti-Roberry Squad (SARS) and military personnel to cause rancour in the state ahead of the ward congress, the APC leadership said it has uncovered plot by Wike to destabilise the already scheduled congress.

Addressing retired military and para-military officers of Ogoni extraction, who visited him in the Government House Port Harcourt today, Wike, said the use of SARS and military personnel in the exercise has vindicated the state government.

The governor stated that the series of statements released by APC stakeholders on the illegal activities of SARS personnel in the course of their forthcoming congress should draw the attention of all well-meaning lovers of democracy.

He said if security agencies can be negatively used during a party congress, Nigerians should expect electoral mischief, masterminded by security agencies in 2019.

Wike said, “In an ordinary party congress, over a platoon of soldiers and more than 200 SARS personnel have been handed over to one man. If these operatives protect just one man, while other communities are left without protection.

“Even the notorious election rigger, SARS Commander Akin Fakorede is operating without check because he has the support of the Police High Command.”

But, the APC, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt today, said it has uncovered plan by the governor and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to destabilise its ward congress,

Chairman of APC in the state, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, in a statement said a group sponsored by Wike and the PDP to carry out the plot have some APC members working for them.

The statement reads in part, “The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has uncovered plan by a group sponsored by Governor Nyesom Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to destabilise Saturday’s APC Congresses in Rivers State. The group which is suspected to have some members of APC in their fold have already gone to work.

“Information unearthed by the APC confirm that the group collected huge sum of money from the governor with the sole purpose of discrediting the congresses through wild allegations against leaders of the party especially the leader of the party in Rivers State and Honourable Minister for Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the State Chairman, Chief (Dr.) Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, amongst others.

“Details of the plan seem to have been rolled out already as the group has gone on air to accuse the Minister of hijacking materials for the congresses, an accusation that exposes the ignorance of the group and makes absolutely no sense at all.

“Whereas the APC is working hard to fully expose the full dimension of the plot and the evil people that are hell-bent on destabilising our party congresses, we urge party faithful and the general public to ignore the well-known antics of Governor Wike, the PDP and their collaborators within and outside the APC who have sold their souls to blood money,” he said.

GM idea: Move the Detroit Auto Show to June, not October

Subscribe There’s a new twist in the ongoing discussions over switching the time frame for Detroit’s annual auto showfrom January

There's a new twist in the ongoing discussions over switching the time frame for Detroit's annual
auto show
from January to October. Hometown automaker
General Motors has floated an idea to remake the North American International Auto Show as a consumer-focused event in June.

Detroit News columnist Daniel Howes
writes that GM has pitched the idea of staging the auto show as an anchor of a larger “massive festival of automotive,” as
GM's Senior Vice President of Global Communications Tony Cervone put it. That would allow for some of the same benefits that a move to October would open up, including outdoor product reveals and ride-and-drive events for media and show-goers, plus showcasing the international riverfront and other downtown venues. But it could also piggyback with the
Chevrolet
Detroit Grand Prix Presented by Lear — did you catch the subtle product placement there? — which takes place on Detroit's Belle Isle island park in early June.

But as with a shift to October, there are issues with the June idea. First and foremost is a crowded calendar of events that time of year at Cobo Center, where
NAIAS is held, which would complicate the show's months-long setup and tear-down needs. Another problem: cooling Cobo on potentially hot days when the convention floor is crammed with people eager to take in the shiny new metal on display. For perspective, the show attracted more than 800,000 during its nine public days this year, and Cobo runs the AC during the show in January, says Max Muncey, NAIAS spokesman. Staging it at the same time as the
Grand Prix could also snarl parking.

”Rod (Alberts, the NAIAS executive director), along with our Board and team are still doing our due diligence of exploring potential date opportunities for NAIAS,” Muncey said in an email to
Autoblog. “As you can imagine, this involves countless meetings with our key stakeholders around the world. Our ultimate goal is to provide a global stage for participating brands that delivers opportunities and experiences that only Detroit can offer.”

Of course, moving the show to October isn't a slam-dunk either.
Recently released data suggest that the Detroit auto show is coming off one of its strongest years from a media-coverage perspective, even if the show failed to generate enthusiasm from some auto enthusiasts. Holding it in the fall would also put it in closer competition with auto shows in Los Angeles and the alternating Paris-Frankfurt shows in Europe. But Muncey says organizers have found October to be the “most viable option,” since it could function as the first domestic auto show of the circuit, eliminate the high costs of holiday-season overtime and for other reasons.

BMW and
Mercedes-Benz are
planning to skip the 2019 NAIAS, adding to a growing list of automakers that have defected from the annual show as companies weigh the shifting importance of auto shows and their high costs against the rise of technology events like CES, in Las Vegas in January, and holding standalone events to reveal new products.

Whatever the outcome, the soonest the show would change dates would be 2020. The Detroit auto show organizers definitely have a big decision in front of them.

Big praise

Ex-Premier League star Robbie Savage has explained why Liverpool Champions League glory would propel Jurgen Klopp among the managerial greats.

The Reds will face Real Madrid in the final of the competition in May as the Anfield side look to win their sixth European cup.

Though, it would be an understatement to say that it will be easy as the side come up against Real Madrid who have not lost a knockout game under Zinedine Zidane.

Safe to say, Jurgen Klopp has his work cut out for him but should his side win the game, he could be set for greatness.

A managerial great?

Robbie Savage certainly thinks that if Klopp were to mastermind a Champions League win, he would be able to among the greats that are Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho and Claudio Ranieri.

“If he charts a path to triumph in Kiev, in my book that would elevate manager Jurgen Klopp to the ranks of English football’s genius elite,” he explained in his Daily Mirror column.

“I love Liverpool’s front three, I love Klopp’s passion, I love the phenomenal din of big European nights at Anfield.

“If Liverpool fly the flag and win their sixth European Cup, Klopp will be a genius – up there on a pedestal with the greats.

“My definition of ‘genius’ means a manager who has achieved exceptional success beyond all expectations.

“Sir Alex Ferguson won the Treble. He’s a genius. So is Arsene Wenger, the man who put together the Invincibles.

“Claudio Ranieri’s a genius for leading Leicester’s 5,000-1 long shots to the title.

“Jose Mourinho has never won the Champions League with an English club, but he’s done it with Porto and Inter Milan. He’s a genius in my eyes.

“And the same applies to Rafa Benitez, who guided Liverpool to their last Champions League triumph.”

Motorola Moto G6 Plus in for review

Before we get into telling you what the Moto G6 Plus is all about, we’ll walk you through a bit

Before we get into telling you what the Moto G6 Plus is all about, we'll walk you through a bit of Moto G history.

Motorola started the G line back in 2013 with a little popular number by the name of the Moto G (OG, if you will). It packed solid smartphone performance at a great price, which at the time was a very rare thing.

Since the original G the line has been Motorola's best-selling and that's reflected in the number of models and number of refreshed models it gets in a year. Last spring Motorola released the Moto G5 and G5 Plus but updated them just four months later with the Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus.

It's 2018 and we get new installments in the series. This time Motorola have three new Moto G6's – the G6, the G6 Plus and the G6 Play. Time will tell if by the year's end we'll get a slightly better S trio, but that's beside the point now.

The Moto G6 Plus (the one in the lovely Deep Indigo paint job) is the best of the G6 trio. It has the biggest display at 5.9 inches, the fastest chipset – a Snapdragon 630 with up to 6GB of RAM and has the best camera setup – dual 12MP f/1.8 + 5MP f/2.2. It only falls short of the biggest battery – the Moto G6 Play has that honor with its 4,000mAh power pack.

An important “first” for the Moto G6 lineup is the move to a tall-aspect display. The Moto G6 Plus has a 5.9-incher, which is eating into the bezels making its front much more attractive than last year's Moto G5S Plus.

What isn't new but Moto faithful will appreciate is the retention of a front-facing LED flash. For such a minor thing it surely makes a lot of difference.

, More importantly, we'd like to see if Motorola improved on the Moto G5S Plus' lackluster camera performance. On the face of it, the Moto G6 Plus should offer better snaps and a similar portrait mode. We weren't too happy about the faux bokeh from last year's Plus' camera but we'll give this new one a fair shake.

Expect a full rundown of the cameras – all three of them – in the detailed review.

Interestingly, Motorola decided to keep the front-facing fingerprint scanner in the Moto G6 Plus instead of going for a rear-mounted one, like in the Play and normal Moto G6.

As usual opinions are split on what's an optimal position for the fingerprint sensor. Some of us prefer the sensor there but most find the Moto G6 Plus a bit too tall and awkward to unlock with a finger on the root of the screen.

What most agreed on is that the Moto G6 Plus is a hot looking phone, especially in its Deep Indigo color. Conservatives would like the fact that it looks black in any light except in very bright one. But boy when it gets the sun in its curves, the Moto G6 Plus looks magical – way prettier than any phone in this price range has the right to be.

We'll need to test the Motorola Moto G6 Plus thoroughly before we give our full judgment. But going by first impressions it looks certain to make every shortlist of reasonably-priced and solidly-performing smartphones.

And outside of devices like Xiaomi's Redmi 5 Plus (Redmi Note 5) or the Asus Zenfone Max Pro, the Moto G6 Plus looks like an easy buy for Europeans and North American buyers that are just looking to order on Amazon and be done with it.

But before we deem it worthy, the Moto G6 Plus would need to maintain those positive early impressions for the entirety of our review. Stay tuned!
