Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has warned contractors handling projects across the state to expedite work in order to deliver on their contractual agreements.
The governor who made the call in Lokoja yesterday shortly after the State Executive Council meeting said his administration will not relent in delivering democracy dividends to the people of the State.
“We are improving on our monitoring and evaluation of projects to ensure that Kogites have value for money on the different projects going on across the state.
“We are satisfied with the level of work in the Diagnostic Center. It was a laudable dream by my predecessor that my administration is bringing to reality. It will be one of the best in Nigeria when completed.
“I have visited a good number of projects too and have received briefs from the Commissioner for Works and Urban Development. We are progressing well and we are hopeful that in a couple of months, we shall be commissioning projects in the state.
“The state government will keep an eye on contractors handling our projects. They must key into our determination to deliver these projects in record time in order to change the Kogi narratives and improve the living standards of the people of the state”.
In a related development, residents of Ankpa town have commended the governor for the ongoing reconstruction of the Ankpa township roads by the state government.
A resident, Alhaji Abdulrahman Isah told reporters that the governor has proven his commitment to infrastructural development in the state.
His words: “When people talk about salaries, we the traders talk about good roads. The ongoing work on the Ankpa township roads has shown that the governor is not only here for the civil servants but for all of us.
“We are happy that salary payment has improved and that contractors are back to sites to continue their work. It has also shown the detribalized nature of the governor as the father of the state”.
Also, a civil servant, Mrs Eleojo Samuel said the roads had further reinforced his faith in the present administration.
Parallel Congresses Can Affect APC Fortunes In 2019 -Akande
By Oladipo Magaji, Ilorin
The prevalence of parallel congresses in the last Saturday’s state congresses of the All Progressives Congress(APC) is capable of affecting the fortunes of the ruling party in next year’s general elections.
The pioneer chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande made this assertion in Ilorin, Kwara state, shortly after the launch of a 640-page autobiography of a former Leader of the Kwara state House of Assembly, Chief Wole Oke, titled, “Omopeninun, The Myth, The Reality”.
Commenting on the factionalisation of the party arising from the congresses, Akande said: “I think the National Executive Committee of the party is going to sort it depending on the circumstances of each state.
“It ought not to have happened but I don’t know why they happened. Now that it has happened it is the duty of the national executive council to look at it and say this one is genuine or the other one is causing parallel congress”.
When prodded on the possible effects of the development on the fortunes of the APC at the 2019 polls, he said: “Crisis will definitely affect the fortune of any party, but it is the duty of the party that it controls it.”
The former governor of Osun state, however, agreed that the National Working Committee of the party was up to the task of tackling the challenges that will arise from the several parallel congresses that took place over the weekend, saying he expects that the committee will look at the claims dispassionately and judge them based on their genuiness or otherwise.
Earlier,Akande had revealed how he used to look at civilians who engaged the military junta in liberation war as ‘foolish’ but that seeing how they had succeeded in entrenching democratic governance in the country he had now changed his views about them.
Both Akande as well as Kwara state governor, Alh Abdulfatah Ahmed described the author, who once served as Secretary of the pro –democracy group, NADECO in the state as a man of outstanding qualities, a committed community developer, nationalist and great political fighter.
