Wayne Rooney is closing in on a move to MLS side DC United with the player arriving in America for a medical and talks on Thursday.

The Englishman secured an emotional return to boyhood club Everton last summer having brought his Manchester United career to an end.

The player was said to be earning in the region of £150,000 at the Merseyside club and his performances this season haven’t exactly lived up to what some expect.

The former Man United talisman started the season well, with several important goals eventually taking him to the tally of 11 for the season.

Though, his form has dipped in 2018 and has found his time on the pitch limited by Sam Allardyce.

Off the wage bill

Reports also suggested that Farhad Moshiri supported Allardyce in that the player was not performing to the level they expected when they brought him in.

With that in mind and the player earning £150,000, reports suggested this week that Everton were seemingly pushing Rooney out the door.

They were hoping that even with Allardyce leaving, they would be able to get the player off the wage bill.

Now, according to Sky Sports, that looks to be going ahead.

That is because they claim Rooney his agent Paul Stretford will be in the states on Thursday to possibly finalise a deal.

While they state that a transfer fee has not been agreed yet and it’s not a done deal, a medical suggests a deal is close.
