Viewers of the clash between Southampton and Liverpool have taken to Twitter in force this evening to lavish praise on Roberto Firmino, following the Brazilian’s incredible assist to set up Mohamed Salah for the Reds’ second goal.

Matchup

The two sides are currently locked in action at St. Mary’s, with Jurgen Klopp’s men eager to get back to winning ways after Tottenham’s late-show saw the Reds drop two points last time out.

Southampton, meanwhile, headed into today’s clash on an impressive 6-match unbeaten streak across all competitions, with the Saints’ last outing culminating in a thrilling 3-2 victory over West Brom at the Hawthorns.

Teams

2-0

Liverpool were viewed as the clear favourites heading into this evening’s matchup, with the Merseyside giants taking little time to prove exactly why following kick-off.

With just 6 minutes on the clock, a long ball forward towards Mohamed Salah saw Wesley Hoedt fluff his attempted clearance, allowing Salah to slide a perfectly-weighted ball across to the incoming Roberto Firmino on the edge of the home side’s box.

Firmino slotted his ensuing finish home with aplomb, before the Reds’ brilliant attacking duo combined once again to double Liverpool’s lead shortly before half-time.

Moment of magic

Firmino was the creator on this occasion, though, with the former Hoffenheim star having produced what many have since referred to as the ‘assist of the season’ in setting Salah up.

After Salah played the ball into Firmino’s feet 5 yards outside Southampton’s box, the South American proceeded to slide his teammate through on goal with the most sumptuous of flicked passes with his instep, all whilst having his back to goal.

Reaction

Salah went on to finish in typically-cool style, with viewers of the clash having since taken to social media to make their feelings on Firmino’s stroke of genius very clear:

Politicians selling our slots – Ondo ex-militants tell Buhari

A coalition of militant groups in Ondo State has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the alleged discrimination

A coalition of militant groups in Ondo State has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the alleged discrimination in the allocation of amnesty slots.

The coalition, in a statement by its leader, General Deji Ehinmowo, on Sunday alleged that politicians had hijacked the amnesty programme in the state.

Members of the coalition include the United Sea-wolf Avengers, the Awaja camp, Black Bush camp, Polugbene camp, Sehinde camp, Eti eremi-ofara camp, Kofawe camp, Nigboroko camp, Mafia camp, Beware of Trouble camp and Mafia Lotto camp.

“We, the above-named coalition of generals in just concluded Federal Government Amnesty Programme in Ondo State wish to let the whole world and Amnesty International know that amnesty slots are being shared among politicians in the state”, the statement read

“The military was supposed to determine those to be enrolled, not politicians who allocated the slots to their cronies.

“We don’t believe in Ondo State Amnesty Committee again having lost confidence in the committee.

“Having fulfilled our own part of agreement, the amnesty committee in the state used slots meant for us to empower their family members, cronies, political ward chairmen, ward women leaders, associates and girlfriends.,’’ the coalition said.

It appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to wade into the crisis in the state amnesty committee on the sharing of amnesty slots in the state.

“All we want is to be incorporated because we have already submitted our arms.

“We want President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the indiscriminate sharing of slots by the Ondo State Amnesty Committee among their family members, political allies and friends.”

The militants expressed belief in the pledge made by Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu during the Nov. 9 flag-off of the amnesty programme that the programme was to sustain the development of the living conditions of the riverine people.

The coalition said it had exercised patience for more than 15 years in the oil producing community in the state to ensure lasting peace in the country.

“All the generals, affected camps and individuals that submitted their arms and ammunition agreed that our constituency, Ondo State, and Nigeria at large, can hardly afford any major crisis in the Niger-Delta region at this period.

“The government is not convinced of the justness of the cause for the emancipation of the people of Ilaje and Ese-Odo federal constituency who have suffered neglect for a long time.

“The government didn’t share the anxiety of the people who perceived the plundering of our lands and waters as akin to genocide.

“The government has forgotten that real development is impossible in a chaotic environment. Are we to be punished for embracing peace.

“They deceived us into laying down our arms and ammunition with the assurance to be incorporated into the programme remained unfulfilled.

“One of the conditions for surrendering our arms and ammunition was the assurance given to us by the governor during the flag-off to be incorporated into the Federal Government Amnesty programme.

“A lot of arms and ammunition such as Fiat Revelli Model gun, Colt Automatic rifle, Sango Scorpion, Dynamite Bitter explosives device, bomb, grenadge, severally AK47 rifles with serial number, military camp uniforms and some automatic cartridge, double barrel rifle, single barrel English and locally made were submitted.

“We have also asked all the oil companies operating in the coastal communities in the state to vacate over the failure of the government to meet our demand in the amnesty programme.”

A Russian passenger plane believed to be carrying 71 people crashed Sunday afternoon near Moscow, shortly after takeoff from one of the city’s airports.

The dead people include 65 passengers and six crew members on board.

The An-148 regional jet disappeared from radar screens a few minutes after departing from Domodedovo Airport en route to the city of Orsk, some 1,500 kilometers (1,000 miles) southeast of Moscow.

The plane reportedly belonged to Saratov Airlines, a Russian commercial carrier.

No survivors were immediately reported.

Plane fragments were found in the Ramenskoye area about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the airport.

Footage on state television showed them strewn across a snowy field with no buildings nearby.

It was unclear if there were any casualties among people on the ground at the crash site.

Russia’s Investigative Committee said all possible crash causes were being looked into.

Shabby equipment and poor supervision had plagued Russian civil aviation for years after the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union, but its safety record has improved markedly in recent years.

The last large-scale crash in Russia occurred on Dec. 25, 2016, when a Tu-154 operated by the Russian Defense Ministry on its way to Syria crashed into the Black Sea minutes after takeoff from the southern Russian city of Sochi. All 92 people on board were killed.

In March 2016, a Boeing 737-800 flown by FlyDubai crashed while landing at Rostov-on-Don, killing all 62 people aboard.

An onboard bomb destroyed a Russian Metrojet airliner soon after taking off from Egypt’s Sharm al-Sheikh resort, killing 244 people in October 2015.

A Russian passenger plane carrying 71 people crashed near Moscow shortly after taking off from one of the city’s airports Sunday. The country’s transportation minister said there were no survivors.

The Saratov Airlines regional jet disappeared from radar screens a few minutes after departing from Domodedovo Airport en route to Orsk, a city some 1,500 kilometers (1,000 miles) southeast of Moscow.

Fragments from the Antonov An-148 airliner were found in the Ramenskoye area, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the airport. Footage on state television showed them strewn across a snowy field with no buildings nearby. No on the ground casualties were reported.

Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said Sunday afternoon that “judging by everything, no one has survived this crash.” He did not give the number of people on board, but Russian news reports said the plane carried 65 passengers and six crew members.

Russia’s Investigative Committee said all possible causes were being explored.

Russian President Vladimir Putin put off a planned trip to Sochi in order to closely monitor the investigation. Putin was to meet Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas on Monday in the Black Sea resort, where the president has an official residence.

Instead, Abbas will meet with Putin in Moscow in the latter part of Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian news agencies.

The An-148 was developed by Ukraine’s Antonov company in the early 2000s and manufactured in both Ukraine and Russia. Russian state news agency Tass said the plane that crashed had been flying since 2010, with a two-year break because of a shortage of parts.

The plane was ordered by Rossiya Airlines, a subsidiary of Aeroflot, but was put into storage during 2015-2017 because of the parts shortage. Tass reported that it re-entered service for Saratov Airlines in February 2017.

2019: Timi Frank reacts to Tinubu’s appointment, gives reasons he may not succeed

National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Timi Frank, has expressed reservation at the ability of Bola Tinubu

National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Timi Frank, has expressed reservation at the ability of Bola Tinubu to reconcile warring members of the party.

While pointing out that it would be difficult bringing the aggrieved blocs in the party together, ‎Frank said Tinubu cannot do magic because “it is already late.”

He also said it was too late to make such move, but congratulated the APC national leader on his new role and prayed God to grant him (Tinubu) the needed wisdom to carry out the assignment.

He said, “If they had listened to me earlier, when I was the only voice in the wilderness and appointed someone like this same Tinubu a year ago, may be the likes of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would not have left the ruling party.

“There is no doubt that Jagaban is the right person to do this job of reconciliation, but unfortunately, the former Lagos state governor cannot do magic because it is already late and nothing will come out of it. Although some people might not like this truth, but I will continue to say it.

“It is a glaring thing that all what Tinubu is expected to repair now were caused by the National Chairman Chief John Oyegun’s indecision, which I loudly spoke about. When I demanded for his resignation, some people felt I was been sponsored.

“But thank God that today, I have been vindicated because all eyes can see clearly what Chief Oyegun’s style of leadership has done to the ruling party. At this level, if care is not taken, APC might soon become history.

“I do not know how the national leader will go about this reconciliation task. But I pray that God will give him the necessary wisdom. To be frank, I don’t know how he will succeed in reconciling the likes of Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Gov. Umar Ganduje in Kano, Sen. Shehu Sani and Gov. Nasir El-Rufai in Kaduna, Speaker Yakubu Dogara and Gov. Mohammed Abubakar in Bauchi, Rotimi Amaechi and Sen. Magnus Abe in Rivers state, Sen. Dino Melaye and Gov. Yahaya Bello in Kogi state, former governor of Edo state Adams Oshiomhole and Chief John Odigie- Oyegun in Edo, crisis in Ondo, Lagos, Gombe, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers, Osun, Ekiti, Jigawa, Niger, Delta states and so on.”

While calling on all members of the APC and the working committee to support the party’s national leader in his efforts to reposition the party, Frank said: “the crisis rocking the party were not caused by Tinubu, but te ineptitude of Chief John Oyegun led NWC.

“For those who are not comfortable with Tinubu’s appointment, they should know that Tinubu wasn’t the national chairman. Oyegun has been the major problem of APC, who led the party to this dilapidated state which Tinubu is about to repair.

But it is unfortunate at the same time that the crisis rocking the party across board has gone out of hand.”

Ekiti 2018: Church founder joins guber race, to field muslim as deputy

The ranks of the governorship aspirants in Ekiti State swelled on Sunday as a Church General Overseer, Pastor Tunde Afe,

The ranks of the governorship aspirants in Ekiti State swelled on Sunday as a Church General Overseer, Pastor Tunde Afe, joined the race.

Afe, the founder of House of Faith Christian Centre in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, said he was desirous of fielding a Muslim as a deputy governorship candidate to send a signal that Nigerians were one in spirit.

Unveiling his ambition at the church’s premises, Pastor Afe stated that he would neither use the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nor the All Progressives Congress(APC) as a platform, saying the two parties had greatly disappointed Nigerians.‎

The cleric said time had come for all Nigerians, particularly those that mean well for the country to rise up and take leadership positions, to prevent total collapse of the system due to activities of corrupt politicians.

The prophet stated that he had begun a process of consultations with critical stakeholders on the choice of political party with the right ideology to contest, assuring that the party with a well fitted ideology will be adopted and such will be made public soon.

He said: “I didn’t receive any special direction before taking this step, because every Nigerian knew that the country is in dire need of good leadership and as a man of God who believes that things must be done properly, I have no reason to sit back while things degenerate.

“Look at what is happening in Nigeria today, I mean killings everywhere and the best way to address this is by using Ekiti as a launch pad for good governance in Nigeria.

“My church has been into role modeling for the youths and also organizing leadership trainings for them to be good leaders in future. We are tapping into all these to make Ekiti great.

“All those that had ruled Ekiti did their best, but I think I can do better because I won’t take whatever that doesn’t belong to me as a benefit in government because I fear God.

“Let me say this, if all the governors and those occupying leadership positions take what are legitimate due to them alone as benefits, Nigeria will be far better than this and that is xactly what I am going to use my aspiration to teach”.

On his decision to choose a muslim as Deputy, Pastor Afe stated that “since both Muslims and Christians are Nigerians with legitimate rights, nothing stops me from picking my deputy among the Muslims.

“The issues affecting Nigerians today knew no religion. It knows no ethnic group, so what we need that we should those who have the fear of God to take charge and Nigeria will be better for it”.

Herdsmen Killings: Our children being wasted, caged in IDP – Northern women cry out

The Northern Nigeria Women Initiative (NNWI), has urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to end the incessant killings by militia groups in the country.

The National President of the group, Mrs Charity Echor, made the call at the maiden National Executive Meeting of the initiative on Sunday in Abuja.

Echor noted that the country was losing its innocent citizens to the “senseless’’ killings in Adamawa, Benue, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Yobe and Borno.

She said that it was the responsibility of the federal government to protect the lives and properties of all citizens as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution.

Echor said: “We are not happy with the regular flow of blood from the North east to the Benue valley; we consider the onslaught on our region unacceptable.

“We are the victims, our Children are caught in the web, our people are wasted and those who are living are caged in IDPs’ camps.”

“Our husbands who are serving in the military are regularly taken away from us in their efforts to fight those waging these wars against us; we have become more vulnerable in our land.

“The unity and peace of the northern region is being threatened which is why we are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, to tighten the security of Nigeria against these evil people,’’ she said.

A Nigerian man Akande Olutobi, has narrated how he was saved by a drunkard and drug addict from sleeping in a police cell during his undergraduate days.

The business development personnel took to his social media page to share his story in a bid to encourage people never to look down on anyone no matter their condition.

Read his story below:-

I was saved by a drunkard/drug addict from sleeping in a cell during my undergraduate days.

He was always a subject of ridicule by all But I would always greet him each time I pass by his compound by prostrating(as a typical Yoruba boy).

He was always amazed to see someone still greet him with such courtesy and would always call me his friend He even promised I would marry his youngest daughter.

Someone was accused of committing a great crime in my hostel and this led the police to arrest all of us..

It was certain we are all sleeping in the cell that night. My friend rushed down to the station when he heard our hostel was ransacked, we never knew he was a retired police officer I was already crying and sweating like a Christmas chicken waiting to be slaughtered.

But behold, I saw my friend coming he was ready to devour the officers for laying hands on his beloved friend.

They had to calm him down and ordered my release immediately. My other friends who laughed at me for always greeting him had to sleep in the cell for almost two weeks.

Please don’t look down on anyone, they might just turn out to be the messiah your life needs at a point in time. What determines your escape during a trail time might be the good deeds you enacted during the rosy ones
