Enugu FA celebrates milestones, hails Governor Ugwuanyi

It was all applause for Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on Thursday as the chairman of the Enugu State Football Association, Hon.

It was all applause for Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on Thursday as the chairman of the Enugu State Football Association, Hon. Chidi Ofo Okenwa reeled out the State’s achievements in the area of soccer.

Speaking Wednesday with sports writers at an event tagged, “90 Minutes with the Chairman”, held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Okenwa said the association had every reason to thank God for the tremendous achievements recorded during the years under review.

‎He said since Ugwuanyi came on board, he had practically demonstrated immeasurable support not only to the Flying Antelopes, Rangers International FC but other levels of soccer engagements in the State.

The FA chairman said despite numerous challenges, associated with soccer development in Nigeria, the State had recorded impressive feat in the last few years, including producing a FIFA badge Referee, Miss Patience Ndidi Madu.

He added that apart from Madu, who was decorated at the event, scores of referees from the state had equally being enlisted into the Nigeria professional football league, NPFL and Nigeria National League, NNL .

‎He said, “in Enugu FA, we create records to make history, we may not be at the speed track but we are not stagnant or still.
“Gburugburu Starlets won future Super Eagles U-13 in 2016 and in 2017 the players graduated to U15 and still lifted the trophy, but this time around in a fashioned way.

“ The Gburugburu Starlets won the trophy and also took home almost all the individual awards.”

He said that Enugu State has at least seven players from the 2017 future Super Eagles conquerors at current national U-15 team.

‎”His Excellency, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in his love for sports appointed a football genius Davison Owumi and Olugbenga Ogunbote as the General managers and Technical Adviser of Rangers respectively”, he added.

He explained that the annual meeting with sports journalists was aimed at taking stock of its activities during the past years, as well as letting stakeholders of the round leather game, across the state, Nigerian, and the globe know where the state FA was coming from and where it was going.

“Despite starting from virtually nothing, the state FA has continued to grow from strength to strength, and we thank God for that”, the chairman stated.

Ofo, who is also the incumbent Chairman of Nigeria National League, NNL, posited that no meaningful feat could be achieved in the busnisess of soccer development without sports writers, whom he described as “key stakeholders and partners”.

“This is because no mater how an event or programme is fantastically packaged, if it is not reported, it means it did not take place.

The Enugu FA Chief expressed appreciation to governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for his continuos support and encouragement to the association and soccer development in the state.

General manager of Rangers FC, prince Davidson Owumi, in a brief remark, hailed the Ofo led FA, for its vibrancy and proactiveness.

He urged stakeholders to continue to support the association and the Flying Antelopes, so as to enable them meet expectations.

Owumi said that he was proud to be back to Rangers after memorable years back with the club in continental league during his first stint as the GM.
He promised to ensure that Rangers qualified for continental league.

In his appreciation, a member of the Gburugburu Starlets Divine Nwachukwu thanked the Enugu FA Chairman and the governor for their assistance to his exposure in the game of football.

“We went to Kano and Lagos, saw and conquered and most of it all is that the governor hosted us and rewarded each us handsomely.

“We were really shocked with the package we received from His. Excellency Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; we never expected such thing. May God continue to bless him”, he said.

Controversy trails Obasanjo’s registration with Coalition for Nigerians

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s registration with his Coalition for Nigeria Movement, CMN has generated reactions from Nigerians. Obasanjo speaking at

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s registration with his Coalition for Nigeria Movement, CMN has generated reactions from Nigerians.

Obasanjo speaking at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abeokuta said the coalition was a movement of the people to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019 nationwide.

CN was launched yesterday in Abuja at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

Some Nigerians have condemned Obasanjo, saying the group was a strategy by the former president to rule Nigeria.

They described it as a group of shameless corrupt politicians and thieves.

However, others with contrary opinion threw their weight behind Obasanjo, insisting that the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party needed to be removed from government.

Here are some comments:

@ajibola Hmmmmmmmm. one chance. Although it will be a check to the APC and PDP. I love it. we need good government. Those cabals would seat right and reduce their excises.

@ajibola “Selfish agenda.. OBJ and his coalition, get it right, Nigeria project is beyond your political jamboree. You are part of the epidemic.

@benjamin binjchan Third term through the back door is loading. As for me i will support this coalition cos this situation in this country now need prayer nd some leader to correct PMB errors.

@emmanuelloka ” We are all waiting for his coalition at the polling units comes 2019.For me and my households, our PVC is for Buhari if he seek reelection or any APC candidate. I’m tired of Obasanjo antics of turning Nigeria to be place that,he’s the only qualify person to dictates it political direction.

@moses ejovi ” If this will help stop the hardship, suffering and hunger and the massive killings of farmers and innocent people by herdsmen… If this will stop the destruction of farm land and burning of farms by herdsmen is a welcome development.

@henryembassy “Obasanjo who accused Mr president to go and rest is registering himself in a political movement,Nigerians know the truth, APC till 2023.

@austinbliss I would rather vote for Obasanjo’s coalition candidate than to cast my vote for insensitive, blood letting, economy destroyer, nepotistic, despotic PMB. This is the worst regime in the history of Nigeria. A regime that only specializes in inflicting pains on the masses, a regime that values cows more than human lives, a regime that has divided Nigeria along religious and ethnic lines. I think we should be grateful to Obasanjo for coming out to save Nigeria from this sinking ship. We must vote out Buhari come 2019!!

@daniken “Obasanjo is the greatest enemy of progress Nigeria ever have he rule for 4yrs as military & rule 8yrs as civilian president without any direction note he is enemy & should be treated as such

@elsteve chux ” Change of clothes does not change the one wearing it.
Obasanjo is always good at writing letters to any sitting president except himself. He told the whole world just recently that Buhari has not disappointed him.I refuse to be a part of any movement Obasanjo ischampioning. No place for APC and CNN in 2019

@ucheobogu “I am in support of the new coalition group, let’s join hand together and push out all the outdated leaders come 2019.

@moga “Powerless groups can never unseat President Buhari in 2019 but only to waste their time and energy because no amount of threat or false media propaganda can change nigerians mind from voting for Buhari in 2019. Surely#MBuhari remain the best for nigerians if, u don’t like die b4 he take Oath for the second Journey 2019 inshaAllah.

@solomonog “In my own understanding, obasanjo is not contesting any election.its just that,he’s a force that can help to remove buhari from power.the both of them are too old to be president of this ever, obasonjo is far better than a religious bigot, pretender, wicked, heartless, clueless, tribalistic buhari.i’ ve seen my PVC though, and it’ll work in 2019 have you gotten yours?

@seyi peters “Because OBj is involved, it’s a confirm fraud like APC… Anyway, I know I won’t vote anymore until we restructure cos wetin d next president wan do wey others never do b4?

@lanredembo ” He failed in his first plot on third term. This is another plan for third term in another form. This will fail also. What I expect of him at his age is to unify his family as the children are cry foul

@deleodugbemi “This is a coalition of old thieves who cannot do better than what PDP governments under OBJ and GEJ did from 1999 to 2015, they’re just applying another method that may take them back to government at federal level in order to continue their usual stealing of our commonwealth with impunity.

@umar mohd The coalition to finally finish and put more hardship and create terrorist groups in addition to the present ones in nigeria. We are not behind any coalition created by Obj and group of nigeria looters,we prefer Buhari 2term than any group of thieves and looters

@odofin olawale ” Obasanjo nd Oyinlola international thief thief ITT. Oyinlola Mr no bitumen to repair road when he was governor of Lagos state nd Mr no development projects in Osun state. Gathering of shameless heartless corrupt politicians nd high profile looters of Nigeria money

@okonkwo “We are for the coalition to save our country, our future, our children. Delta state support us in support !!

@momoh “This arrangement will surely favour PMB. At least, the coalition movement will share PDP little votes from the South

@obaro “Coalition movement is fraud, criminals like oyinlola are still in the movement, they join so that they can make them president

APC report on restructuring will renew settled onshore/offshore dichotomy – Mimiko

The immediate past Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has said the report of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

The immediate past Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has said the report of the All Progressives Congress (APC) committee on restructuring will stoke the already settled controversial dichotomy on onshore/offshore oil production revenue.

Mimiko stated this in his lecture at the 2018 Yoruba Youth Assembly Lecture with the theme: “National Development, Restructuring and the Yoruba”, held in Ibadan, on Thursday.

The former Ondo Governor said that while it was noteworthy that the report seemingly endorsed Resource Control Principle, it had brought back the sensitive and controversial onshore/offshore dichotomy issue.

“While I agree that the fears of all part of the country must be allayed as regards resource control, it is important to note that every part of our land is well resource endowed.

“With the recent advances in power storage technology in batteries, and progressively reducing cost of renewables, we must be constantly reminded that fossil fuel will soon become truly fossil,” he said.

Mimiko expressed his lack of confidence in the APC’s commitment to restructuring with President Muhammadu Buhari’s stand in his New Year message that it was the process of governance in Nigeria rather than the structure that required some tinkering.

He said “rather than waste useful time tinkering with process, the appropriate thing to do is a wholesale review of the nature of the structure, such that it is reconfigured to be able to deliver on its mandate. That the President’s political party, APC, came out very quickly to attempt a reformulation of the President’s proposition is needless, as it is doubtful if the party is in a position to veto the president of the nation.”

“That President Buhari made his statement in spite of the bold and unequivocal commitment of the APC manifesto to restructuring is also indicative of the questionable pattern in which the party swept its way into office some three years ago. APC can, in the circumstances, safely be accused of promising what it never intended to do,” Mimiko added.

He advised the APC and the President to put its house in order and stop echoing different positions on restructuring, send the bill of its position on restructuring to the National Assembly and use its influence and dominance of the legislative arm at the Federal and State levels, to ensure the swift passage of the bill within the next 2 and 3 months.

“With its control of the legislative house at the Federal and State level, the APC has capacity to actualize its restructuring agenda before the next (2019) election. Then and only then, to my mind, can the nation believe that the born again restructuring mantra is not another vote catching gimmick,” he added.

Mimiko, who in his lecture lamented how the military imposed unitary constitution had retarded the growth of the Yoruba nation, said “the Yoruba Nation would by now be proud of modern infrastructure – tri-model transportation system – rail, roads and ports, near 100% broadband penetration, industrial parks and 24/7 power supply! World class educational and Health facilities would have been built. Democratization of access to education would have been deepened.”

The former Governor averred that “the country may not move beyond its extant mediocre performance level in development and nation-building as long as it continues to sustain its present structure that is defective and iniquitous.

“The critical ingredient that has made it impossible for the country’s rise to the fullness of its potentials, according to him, is the warped structure upon which it is predicated.”

He posited that an arrangement that allows the Yoruba to use their initiative in the development enterprise, within the context of a federal Nigeria, promises to serve the nation quite well.

“We would be able to return to our culture, which is premised on social development, and bring back such values that made for social harmony in the past.

“The good thing about all of these is that, as it is with the Yoruba, so it is with all other ethnic-nations in the regions, those not as homogenous as the Yoruba inclusive”‎, he said.

He affirmed his conviction that if Nigeria was restructured along this pattern, it would serve as an immediate catalyst for national development and resumption of the development enterprise in Yoruba land.

Mimiko further said that the agitation for restructuring would make no sense if it does not provide the unimpeachable basis for deployment of governance structures for the betterment of the lives of the people.

This, according to him is the critical element that provides justification for the restructuring advocacy.

“The advocacies for restructuring, greater democratization, a cleaner electoral process, etc., would amount to nothing if they do not translate into observable good life for our people, and strengthen national unity across our country,” Mimiko posited.

Other speakers, former Secretary of the Yoruba Council of Elders, Dr Kunle Olajide, Professor Akin Onigbinde and Akogun Tola Adeniyi in their remarks corroborated Mimiko’s position and urged the youths to take necessary steps in reorganizing the systems and stop lamenting.

Chairman of the occasion, Akogun Tola Adeniyi, in his opening remarks lauded Mimiko for his consistency and commitment to the agitation for a better Nigeria, which according to him was demonstrated while in office as Ondo State governor.

The president of Yoruba Youth Assembly, Olarinde Thomas in his welcome address said the event was in furtherance of the clamour for restructuring.

Dignitaries at the events include Chief Yemi Farounmbi former Nigeria Ambassador to Philippines, and a governorship aspirant of the PDP in Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde, among others.

Ekiti 2018: I have settled rift with Fayemi – Bamidele

A member of the seventh House of Representatives, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, yesterday said he has settled differences with former Governor

A member of the seventh House of Representatives, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, yesterday said he has settled differences with former Governor Kayode Fayemi for the All Progressives Congress(APC) to be able to triumph in the July 14, 2018 governorship poll.

Bamidele admonished the APC leaders to field an experienced person to fly the party’s flag for the governorship election, rather than a neophyte, who would assume office and start disgracing the party with poor performance.

The former commissioner said he is a thorough-bred technocrat, who has traversed every arm of government as a commissioner, a federal
parliamentarian and lawyer, who was well groomed for the coveted seat.

Bamidele said these on Thursday while declaring for the governorship seat in his ward at Iyin Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area of the state , where he also unveiled his blueprint dubbed: ‘Manifesto of Brighter Future for Ekiti’, encapsulating his mission and vision for the state.

He was received by the chairmen of the two wards in the town, Hon. Opeyemi Ogundele and Hon. Adeuyi Folorunso, respectively.

Bamidele told the party members that he had settled rift with the Minister of Mines and Steel Development and former governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
“God in his own way has settled my differences with Dr. Fayemi, so no more crisis and segregation. We are all one. There are no groups called Bibire or JKF, we are one APC and that we shall continue texploit to rescue Ekiti from the dungeon of economic doldrums”.

Unveiling the contents of the manifesto, Bamidele stated that the blueprint consists of programmes that would proffer solutions to the hydra-headed socio-economic problems pummeling the state due to bad governance brought to the fore by the present government.

“With what is happening today in Ekiti, it was clear and evident that the State is in pain and in dire need of a leader that has scientific understanding of what governance is all about to redirect us to the path of a sustainae and viable Ekiti .

“I understand governance and I know that there are three arms , which are: Executive , Judiciary and legislature. I have garnered experiences in all the facets and I have grown through the gamut to reach where I am today.

“In the executive arm, I served for 11 years in the government of Lagos State as Special Adviser and Commissioner and our records are here. I was elected as a member of House of Representatives in 2011 and this imbued me with deep knowledge of the legislature. And as a lawyer, I have practised as a Minister in the temple of justice for 26

“I have executed programmes of government, I have made laws for the nation and I have helped in building a virile judicial arm, these makeme a complete person and I can proudly say that I am the best for the job for no governor in the history of Ekiti had ever got this experience before election”.

Elaborating more on the manifesto, Bamidele said he was the first aspirant to unveil his blueprint for Ekiti before formal declaration, describing this as not only outstanding but novel in the state’s political trajectory since the advent of democracy in 1999.

Assuring that the blueprint was scientifically structured to meet to Ekiti needs, Bamidele said: “Our projection is to make Ekiti the food basket of our dear nation, because we have good soil and climatic conditions that favourably put us in a good stead to feed our

“In this blueprint, we have ways to harness our mineral deposits in all parts of Ekiti, we have programmes for civil servants, teachers , aged people, youth and social development, Sports Development that explained vividly how sports has become a science, robust health programmes and conscious human capital development schemes to make Ekiti great.

“I am a lawyer with network of people both locally and
internationally , I have them across the globe. I will bring all these to the to the disposal of Ekiti people”, he added.
