Chelsea make Bayern Munich forward their main summer target

Reports are emerging from The Telegraph that Chelsea are aiming to bring experienced Bayern Munich goalscorer Robert Lewandowski to Stamford

Reports are emerging from The Telegraph that Chelsea are aiming to bring experienced Bayern Munich goalscorer Robert Lewandowski to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Bad news for Morata

Of course, if Lewandowski does become a Chelsea player this summer, that would surely signal the end of Alvaro Morata’s short spell as a Chelsea player.

The Spaniard arrived at Stamford Bridge in the 2017 summer transfer window for a fee of around £60 million.

Despite the hefty price tag though, Morata has failed to impress for The Blues. The forward started the season well scoring six goals in his first six league games.

However, since the 9th of December 2017, Morata has scored a dismal two Premier League goals. His poor displays brought him under huge criticism from his manager and fans alike.

This would lead to Morata becoming somewhat of a fringe player for Chelsea as Antonio Conte would at times, chose to play Eden Hazard up front, rather than Morata.

Alvaro Morata’s poor season would also see him miss out on Spain’s World Cup squad when it was announced yesterday. Now, with Lewandowski likely set for Stamford Bridge, Morata’s season looks to go from bad to worse as he is seemingly being forced out of Chelsea, just a year after his big money move.

A real asset for Chelsea

However, given that Chelsea failed to qualify for the Champions League this season, it is clear they are in need of some fresh legs as Stamford Bridge. Especially in the striking department, where, as mentioned above, Morata scored just two league goals from the 9th of December till the end of the season.

Lewandowski, on the other hand, is a prolific, consistent, goal scorer. During his time at Dortmund, Lewandowski played 187 games for them. Racking up 103 goals and 43 assists in that time.

Then, when Lewandowski moved to his current club Bayern Munich he has, so far, played 195 competitive games for the German giants. In which the Bayern forward has managed to score a very impressive 151 goals, as well as earning 35 assists.

This shows Lewandowski could be a real asset to Chelsea. And while this move may spell the end of Alvaro Morata’s time at Chelsea, Lewandowski would do a much better job of helping them fight for a Champions League spot next season.

Can Spain win the World Cup? Julen Lopetegui has named his 23 man squad that he will be taking to

Can Spain win the World Cup?

Julen Lopetegui has named his 23 man squad that he will be taking to Russia this summer with some surprise inclusions being named on the list.

Spain won the 2010 World Cup in dramatic fashion as Andres Iniesta scored a 116th minute winner against the Netherlands at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.

The Spanish national side then went on to win EURO 2012 two years later but have been below par ever since then.

Spain were knocked out in the group stage of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and were beaten by Italy in the round of 16 at Euro 2016.

The Spain squad is filled to the brim with fantastic players but two Chelsea players will be upset that they have been left out.

The Spain squad

No Morata or Fabregas in Spain’s World Cup squad

Alvaro Morata and Cesc Fabregas both missed out on the Spain squad for this summer’s tournament despite playing key roles for both their club and country in the past.

Morata scored 3 goals at Euro 2016 and despite not winning over the Chelsea fans, he does have a pretty decent record in England as he has netted 15 goals in 47 matches.

Cesc Fabregas was the man who assisted Iniesta for “that” goal in the 2010 World Cup final but he has been left out of the squad.

Spain have some brilliant midfield players and Fabregas hasn’t played for the national side since June 2016.

Fabregas has represented his country on 110 occasions and was part of the most successful Spanish (and potentially European) side of all time from 2008-2012.

Unlucky Marcos Alonso

Marcos Alonso may be feel hard done by considering he was named in the PFA team of the year and won the Premier League title just last season.

As well as the FA Cup this past weekend. Alonso may have been a victim of the fact Spain’s midfield is so strong that they will not utilise wing backs in Russia.

Despite Arsenal’s relatively poor season, Nacho Monreal made the squad. He was fantastic for the Gunners throughout the campaign and even scored 6 goals.

Juventus & Chelsea in transfer talks over Alvaro Morata

Is Alvaro Morata leaving Chelsea this summer?

The front page of pink Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport features Alvaro Morata on Tuesday.

Gazzetta confirm that Morata is Juventus’ key summer target and a deal could be wrapped up very soon.

The transfer window opens on Thursday and there seems a strong chance that Morata will move early after an underwhelming season at Chelsea.

The Spanish striker was signed as Antonio Conte’s big summer signing but has struggled more than expected, and has missed a number of high profile chances for Chelsea.

Morata ended the season with 11 goals in 31 Premier League games. The Spaniard was usurped in the Chelsea starting XI by Olivier Giroud by the end of the campaign.

Juventus & Chelsea in talks over Morata

Gazzetta dello Sport report that Juventus are keen on bringing Morata back to the club, two years after he left to return to Real Madrid.

Morata has spoken publicly about how he loved his time in Turin and this could be key in making a move happen quickly.

Juventus have held talks with both Morata and Chelsea over the summer move, with the Spaniard seen as the long-term replacement for Mario Mandzukic.

Will Chelsea break even on Alvaro Morata?

The most likely scenario is that Juventus loan Morata initially from Chelsea, with a commitment to buy the player after one or two seasons.

Chelsea are expected to ask for at least 50 million pounds to sell Morata.

The Blues paid 58 million pounds to sign Morata from Real Madrid last summer, not including incentives.

Will Juventus sign Alvaro Morata & Anthony Martial?

On the final day of the Premier League season, it seems very possible that Alvaro Morata and/or Anthony Martial will play their final matches respectively in England’s top flight.

Juventus are in pole position for both and on Sunday Tuttosport reveal that The Old Lady have been in talks with both Chelsea and Manchester United.

Tuttosport clarify that Juventus are not looking to replace Gonzalo Higuain and the Argentine has his future confirmed in Turin.

For now, Juventus are keen to bring in a striker that complements Higuain, which could either be Morata or Martial.

Anthony Martial

Juventus looking for Mario Mandzukic replacement

Whilst signing both Morata and Martial is possible, Juventus are really only looking for one new attacker.

This player is likely to be a replacement for Croatian attacker Mario Mandzukic, who is set to leave Juventus at the end of the season.

With Mandzukic having played on the left side of attack in recent months, Martial would likely be a better replacement for the Croatian.

But, Morata spent time at Juventus and would surely find it easier to acclimatise.

Chelsea keen to sell Morata

Tuttosport reveal that the negotiations between Juventus and Chelsea are becoming simpler.

Chelsea paid 80 million euros to Real Madrid for Morata and are not willing to let the Spanish striker leave for less than 60 million euros.

Whilst Juventus cannot afford 60 million euros, by loaning Morata to the Italian giants, Chelsea would not have to write off a loss.

Morata is keen to leave Chelsea for Juventus and will reject other offers to make this move.

Anthony Martial faces choice over his future

Anthony Martial has a bigger choice regarding his next move, likely to be from Manchester United this summer.

The likes of Bayern Munich and PSG are keen on Martial.

The French attacker is out of contract at Manchester United come the end of 2018/2019, so holds a few of the cards in any negotiations.

Juventus face a big summer ahead

In recent days, Massimiliano Allegri has been installed as the favourite for the Arsenal job.

Now there is speculation in Italy as to who will replace Allegri at the Old Lady.

Meanwhile, Juventus have the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday night, against AC Milan. And, they need just one more point to wrap up the Scudetto.

With all of this going on, Juventus continue to be linked with Premier League players and could well attract three of them this summer, if the bookies are to be believed.

Alvaro Morata just 5/2 for Juventus move from Chelsea

Juventus could be set for a Premier League summer raid, according to Ladbrokes.

Now just 1/3 shots to sign Emre Can, the bookies rate the Italian giants’ chances of bringing back Alvaro Morata at just 5/2 – shorter than they’ve ever been.

Meanwhile, 3/1 says Anthony Martial completes a shock switch when the summer transfer window opens.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Things haven’t exactly gone according to plan for Morata at Stamford Bridge, but the latest odds suggest he could be one of three blockbuster names set for a big money move to Juventus”

Anthony Martial – 3/1

Can, Morata & Martial?

Certainly Emre Can is looking like a certainty for Juventus this summer. In the press on Tuesday there are suggestions that Liverpool could bring in Sami Khedira as part of a swap deal.

Alvaro Morata seems less certain despite his struggles this season. Nevertheless, Morata has spoken fondly of his time in Turin.

Anthony Martial is the least likely of the three and this is because Manchester United will likely want a big fee for the Frenchman. And as the likes of Chelsea and Spurs are also interested in the former Monaco attacker.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has revealed that striker Alvaro Morata is hopeful of being in contention to face Huddersfield Town on Wednesday evening.

The Spaniard was absent from the Blues’ 1-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday afternoon with the striker understood to be suffering from a back problem.

The Blues face a crunch clash with the Terriers this week as they make one final attempt to clinch Champions League football for next season, finding themselves just a point off of fourth-placed Spurs.

“It’s not serious”

Conte has admitted that Chelsea are hopeful of welcoming the return of Morata this Wednesday with Italian bemoaning the lack of attacking options in the 25-year-old’s absence.

Conte said:

“It’s not serious.

“In my mind, there is the intention for him to be in contention for the game against Huddersfield. I hope.

“The injury is not serious. I hope to recover him, also because, on the bench, we had no strikers.”

Since moving from Real Madrid last summer to West London, Morata has managed just 15 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions.

Morata revealed this week the reasoning behind his poor form in England, with the striker claiming a persistent back problem has kept in and out of the side.

Morata told Marca:

“It has been a complicated year for me and I don’t think it’s been the best year for the team either.

“I’ve gone through a tough year. It all started so well. Everybody loved me and I was scoring goals, but it’s different now.

“People say things to me on the street, but they don’t know what I’ve gone through. The person who does know what I’ve gone through is my wife.

“I would rather have torn a muscle and be out for three months than not know exactly what I had. I wanted to play and to keep scoring, but I couldn’t. I didn’t know what I had.

Chelsea vs Liverpool

Will Chelsea finish the season with a top four Premier League slot, and a ticket into next season’s Champions League?

The Blues have a lot of work to do to make that dream happen in the final weeks of the season.

On Sunday Chelsea host Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. It’s critical that Chelsea win, or their top four ambitions will basically be over.

Alvaro Morata: ‘My wife questioned my attitude’

Prior to the Liverpool match, Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has spoken to Spanish paper Marca.

It’s been a tough season for Morata in his first year in the Premier League.

The Spanish striker may miss out on a place in La Roja’s World Cup squad after a stop-start season.

While Morata began the year scoring goals for Chelsea, injuries have helped slow down his form in the second half of the campaign.

And Morata has confessed that his wife, Alice Campello, has spoken to him about his behaviour on the pitch, and his interaction with Premier League referees:

I would arrive home and Alice would say to me ‘have you seen what you’re doing and the attitude you have on the pitch?’ I didn’t realise what I had been doing.

Morata also spoke about his back problems while his wife is pregnant:

Oh, how we must have looked! With me on the bed and unable to move and her vomiting.

They are experiences and I’m sure they’ll help us in the future.

Juventus chief discusses chance of re-signing Paul Pogba & Alvaro Morata

Juventus reunion

Reports this week have suggested that Juventus could look to re-sign Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata.

The pair have really struggled at their respective clubs this season and could possibly leave the clubs.

Alvaro Morata has only scored two goals this season and has had a torrid time at Stamford Bridge.

The player was signed by Juventus a few seasons back before Real Madrid resigned him with a buy-back clause before selling to Chelsea.

On the other hand Paul Pogba left Manchester United for Juventus on a free transfer before rejoining the Old Trafford side for a world record fee at the beginning of last season.

Now, Juventus are reportedly looking into the possibility of resigning the players.

Paul Pogba

Response

Though, Giuseppe Marotta has revealed that he does not believe in players returning after they left but he would possibly make an exception for those two.

He did admit that the club would be unlikely to sign them, however, due to their current values.

‘I don’t really believe in players coming back after having gone away, but there are also exceptions,” Marotta told Mediaset, as cited by the Metro.

‘They are two great professionals who left excellent memories, but the market value that they have reached is a mirage for us.’

‘Higuain was an extraordinary signing for us and it was made after we had sold Pogba,’ Marotta added.

‘We’re working on many fronts, but at the moment, they are a mirage. But it’s not just those two. There are many others’.

For the 18th time in Premier League, Olivier Giroud came off the bench to score, this time to break the hearts of Southampton as his brace helped Chelsea to overturn a two-goal deficit to claim all three points at St Mary’s.

Whilst the result for the Blues only moves them to within seven points of the top four, the defeat for Southampton is very consequential as they remain three points away from safety with just five games remaining.

Following the win, Chelsea fans have taken to Twitter to express their views on both Giroud and Alvaro Morata, with many supporters demanding manager Antonio Conte to drop the former Real Madrid striker for the Frenchman.

Giroud’s winning goal

Giroud’s well-driven shot in a compact penalty area sealed a big win for Conte as his side performed a miraculous comeback.

The former Arsenal player was yet again forced to come off the bench, with Morata being given the nod to start against Southampton.

After being withdrawn at 2-0 down, Morata was replaced by Giroud, with the 31-year-old inspiring Chelsea to score three in the space of just eight minutes and avoid yet another disappointing Premier League result.
