Confirmation

Italian giants Napoli have today confirmed that they have parted ways with manager Maurizio Sarri with Carlo Ancelotti set to take over.

The Serie A side actually impressed this season under Sarri and pushed Juventus all the way to the line in the league.

That has all been while playing some scintillating football under the Italian but they are set for change this summer.

Sarri has been looking to leave the club to explore new pastures for next season and is heavily linked with a move to Chelsea.

Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti will also be taking over at Napoli according to reports.

Fabricio Romano has revealed that Ancelotti has already signed a deal with the club and his appointment is soon to be confirmed.

Chelsea implications

The question now turns to where will Sarri be heading?

Having been so closely linked with Chelsea for months now, it is expected that he will be headed to Stamford Bridge.

The club are set to sack Antonio Conte after a lacklustre season in the Premier League and despite winning the FA Cup.

With Sarri now free to negotiate with any club, he will now likely enter talks with Chelsea for when Conte is sacked.

Though, the Blues will have to move quickly with Zenit said to be offering the Italian a big wage to manage in Russia.

Managerial merry-go-round

Chelsea could be closing in on the signing of Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri as Carlo Ancelotti agrees deal to join Italian giants next season.

Carlo Ancelotti has long been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge after a lacklustre Premier League campaign.

The Blues eventually finished fifth and will have to navigate the Europa League next season.

That has lead to suggestions that Conte could be sacked but not only for his results, also the rift between management and recruitment policy.

The system at Chelsea has put a pretty big strain on the relationship between Conte and the club and it’s likely he will want to leave the club anyway.

The future

While Antonio Conte is the past of Chelsea, the future looks bright under Maurizio Sarri.

The Italian almost guided Napoli to a shock Serie A title, though Juventus were just able to pip them to the line.

That has not put a damper on Sarri’s reputation though, who played some incredible football this season.

Now, The Guardian has revealed that Carlo Ancelotti has agreed a deal to take over at Napoli.

It is said that he will earn around £5.27m per season and that means that Sarri will be leaving the club.

While Antonio Conte is yet to leave Chelsea, it is likely that he will be sacked at some point in the next week or so.

That will allow the inevitable appointment of Sarri as the Stamford Bridge boss.

Though, if they don’t move quickly, he could be snapped up by Zenit who are also sniffing around the Italian.

The FA Cup won’t save Antonio Conte: The bookies are convinced about the next Chelsea manager

Antonio Conte provides Chelsea fans with another great day out

If Antonio Conte does leave Chelsea, as expected this summer, then the Italian has at least provided supporters of the Blues with some memorable matches.

Last season, Chelsea won the Premier League in some style with the sight of Conte buccaneering up and down the touchline a permanent reminder of his presence.

In 2017/2018, it has been a bit more of a struggle for Conte in the Premier League but on Saturday at Wembley he got one over on his old rival Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea won the FA Cup final thanks to a 1-0 win over Manchester United. Eden Hazard’s first half penalty was the difference between the two sides.

Will Antonio Conte stay on as Chelsea manager?

Throughout this campaign, Antonio Conte has been under pressure as Chelsea manager.

In any other season, a campaign without a top four finish would usually see the Chelsea boss sacked.

Perhaps times at Chelsea are different now, with a lot less investment into the playing staff.

We must also take into account that Roman Abramovich also appears to have problems of his own right now.

Chelsea’s Russian owner was denied a new UK Visa and did not attend the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.

After the game, Conte announced he has decided to “respect my contract at Chelsea.”

Punters backing Poch for Chelsea gig

Despite a great weekend for Chelsea, the bookies seem convinced that Conte is on his way out of Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino is just 7/1 with Ladbrokes to become the next Chelsea manager.

Despite winning the FA Cup on Saturday the bookies don’t believe it’s enough to earn the Chelsea boss a reprieve, and it’s odds-on at 2/7 that Conte is not in charge for the first game of the Premier League season 2018/19.

Luis Enrique is the 2/1 favourite to replace him, followed by Maurizio Sarri at 7/2 and Brendan Rodgers at 5/1, however punters are coming for the Spurs boss, Mauricio Pochettino, who has seen his odds tumble into 7/1.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Conte’s still a dead man walking as far as the odds are concerned, and while Enrique is the bookies’ favourite to replace him, it’s Pochettino who is the punters’ pal.”

FA Cup Final: Chelsea v Manchester United: What is at stake?

What is the prize at stake? The prestige of winning the 137th FA Cup, or pride, or would it be a trophy to just gloss over a bad season?

The talking points will be on whether Romelu Lukaku, who has missed United’s last three matches after an ankle injury will be fit to start and whom Antonio Conte will prefer between Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata to lead the Blues.

Former FA Cup winner with Chelsea, Ruud Gullit, says the only way his former team can get a good result on Saturday will be to be patient.

“If Chelsea wait, their chance will come, and I think that way of playing on the break suits the players that Conte has got anyway, especially up front with quick players like Eden Hazard and Willian,” he said.

But former United captain, Gary Neville, believes a ’happier’ United team will get the better of a spiritless Chelsea team that is clearly floundering.

“They [Chelsea] have got some great individuals but I see United as a happier unit at this moment in time, and they have also played outstandingly well against all the big Premier League teams this season – they have beaten the rest of the top six at least once.

“We must be focused on Saturday and for us, it is very important and we want to finish with a trophy and it is important for the coach, players, fans and the club. We are focused on this target,”he said.

The road to the final

For Mourinho, who has won 12 of the 14 finals he has ever contested, the mantra is to win and not to entertain.

“I still don’t understand these words of ‘entertaining’,” Mourinho told the Daily Mirror. “You think 6-0 is entertaining? I don’t think so.

“I think entertaining is emotion until the end, is open result until the end, is everybody on their seats until the end, both dugouts nervous and tense with the unpredictability of the result, that for me as a football lover, that’s entertaining, so I think it’s going to be entertaining.”

No matter what was said, the result will still be the combined effort of all 11 players and the substitutes so these duels may largely determine the match outcome.

Robbie Savage explains why Conte won’t be Chelsea boss for long

Coming to an end

Former Premier League star Robbie Savage has explained why Antonio Conte’s reign as Chelsea boss has ‘reached a dead end’.

The Italian boss was a revelation last season when he guided his side to the Premier League title and with ease.

Though, it has been a completely different story this season.

The side look defensively frail and their forward players have done very little to impress during the current campaign.

Alvaro Morata has looked a shadow of the player he was at the beginning of the season and Olivier Giroud has now become their main striker.

The side finished fifth in the Premier League and should they win the FA Cup, it’s still likely that Antonio Conte will leave the club this summer.

Dead end

Now, Robbie Savage has summarised Antonio Conte’s downfall this season.

“To me, it looks as if Conte has lost his mojo at Chelsea,” he explained in his Daily Mirror column.

“Instead of a dynamic coach hopping around on the touchline and diving into the crowd to celebrate goals with the fans, all I see now is a distant, rueful figure with arms folded and transmitting negativity to his players on the pitch.

“Instead of the passion that used to set him apart, with Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, on the touchline, Conte looks a spent force.

“When he came in, and Conte took Chelsea from mid-table to champions in 12 months, he was a revelation.

“Now they have gone from champions to no Champions League football and, possibly, no trophies.

“Too often on the run-in Conte’s team has reflected his own demeanour: Sluggish, lethargic, half-interested.

“Changing the coach has worked for Chelsea down the years under Roman Abramovich’s rule, and it feels like Conte’s time has reached a dead end.”

Maurizio Sarri agrees new Napoli contract

At the beginning of the week, there were strong rumours that Carlo Ancelotti would replace Maurizio Sarri at Napoli.

There seems little doubt that Sarri has done an awesome job at Napoli, where he has turned them into Scudetto challengers.

However, it was thought that Sarri would leave Napoli this summer due to the disappointment of failing to beat Juventus to the Serie A title.

And, due to the fact that Sarri would look for a new challenge with Chelsea in the Premier League.

Sarri & De Laurentiis hold positive Napoli talks

However, in recent hours, after talks with Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis – it looks like Sarri will remain at the Italian side.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Sarri and De Laurentiis spent two hours in talks on Wednesday.

The charismatic Napoli chairman agreed a deal with Sarri to extend his contract and also receive an improvement in salary.

Who next for Chelsea? Luis Enrique?

The rumours linking Sarri with Chelsea were so strong that there were suggestions the Napoli coach hard urged his coaching staff to learn English.

If Sarri does stay at Napoli, where does it leave the Blues? With Antonio Conte expected to leave the club after the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Much of the speculation now suggests Luis Enrique will be first choice for Chelsea.

However, Enrique failed to get the Arsenal job as his financial demands were reportedly too high.

These days Chelsea are not the club they were initially under owner Roman Abramovich, will they splash the cash for the former Barcelona boss?

Perhaps trying to keep Antonio Conte at the club is now Chelsea’s best option?

Antonio Conte has described Chelsea’s fifth-place finish in the just concluded Premier League season as unacceptable.

Chelsea’s top-four hopes were eventually crushed following their 3-0 away defeat against Newcastle United on the final day of the season on Sunday.

The defeat means Chelsea ended in fifth and could only secure a Europa League ticket.

Conte said in his post-match comments that Chelsea did not deserve anything in the game at St. James’ Park.

“We deserved to lose because our start wasn’t good and we suffered by losing every ball. Newcastle were more determined than us,” the Italian said.

“We didn’t lose our Champions League place today, we had chances in the last two games, but to finish the season this way is not good for anyone connected to the club.”

Conte admitted he is to blame for Chelsea woeful defeat to Newcastle.

“When you are at the end of the season, this performance can happen, but the first person to answer for this must be the coach. I wasn’t able to convey that determination to my players.”

He stated they must be at their best ahead of next weekend’s FA Cup final against Manchester United.

“We have six days to prepare for the final of the FA Cup and we have to change.”

Amd when quizzed if Sunday’s defeat was his last Premier League game in charge of Chelsea, Conte said: “I have a contract and I am committed to this club.”

Antonio Conte insists Chelsea have improved during his tenure

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte claims that the club are now in a better place than when he took charge back in

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte claims that the club are now in a better place than when he took charge back in 2016, despite this season’s slump in form.

The Italian coach claims that following the Blues’ title triumph last season the West London club has improved during his two-season tenure at Stamford Bridge.

After arriving from the Italian national team job in the summer of 2016, Conte was tasked with improving upon a tenth-placed finish in the previous season.

The Italian managed to make an immediate impact in West London by guiding the Blues to the Premier League title, which Conte believes demonstrates progression.

Conte said:

“I think you remember, last season after a 10th place we won the league.

“It was difficult. We worked very hard, but we won, after a 10th place finish.

“Now, probably, you can finish fifth and start with a bit of an advantage compared to when you finish 10th.

“For sure, we worked two years and worked very hard to try to build something, to create a base. I think we did this.”

2017/18 season struggles

However, the defence of their title this season has not gone to plan as Chelsea look set to miss out on Champions League football with a fifth-placed finish.

Conte admitted:

“This season we also worked very hard and, for sure, we are struggling.

“We are struggling to take a place in the Champions League.

“But this league is very tough. Where there are six top teams who fight to take the four Champions League places. It can happen.

“Last season, United finished sixth and Arsenal fifth. You must pay great attention for the present and the future.

“It won’t be easy. It’s not automatic that you finish every season in the top four.”

Conte: Chelsea Can Finish Fifth Now And Win EPL Title Next Season

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has tipped the club for Premier League success next season despite their struggles this term.

Chelsea are likely to miss out on next season’s UEFA Champions League as they are currently fifth on 70 points in the league table with one game remaining.

They can however finish in the top four if they beat Newcastle away on Sunday and hope Brighton and Hove Albion beat Liverpool at Anfield.

“Chelsea last season managed to win the league having finished 10th the previous year, so there can be success again even if we finish fifth this time around,” Conte said on Friday during his pre-match press conference.

“The Premier League is ‘great’ and to compete with so many strong clubs, it is a great chance to have and I am very happy with the last two seasons as I have continued to learn.

“It is still important to focus only on this season, rather than talk about challenging Man City next season.”

On the injury front, he revealed that Thibaut Courtois could return to action for Chelsea after being sidelined with injury.

He added: “Thibaut Courtois trained today and is contention to play against Newcastle. There is no other injury news.”

Conte Unhappy With Chelsea Finishing Despite Win Vs Swansea

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has criticised his players for failing to take their chances in the 1-0 Premier League win

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has criticised his players for failing to take their chances in the 1-0 Premier League win against Swansea City but admits picking three points from the game is all that matters.

The Blues dominated proceedings in the first half at the Liberty Stadium and took a deserved lead through Cesc Fabregas but failed to add to their advantage despite creating a number of chances especially in the first half.

Swansea almost capitalised on the West London side’s profligacy with a couple of late chances.

After closing to within two points of Tottenham Hotspur, who play their game in hand at home to Watford on Monday, Conte is glad to still be in the race for a top-four finish.

“We started the game very well and dominated the game in the first half. But you must be very good to kill the game and you have to take the chances otherwise you risk your opponent trying to push,” Conte stated in his post-match interview.

“We were very good defensively and it’s important for us to take three points with a good win.

“Now we have three games to go and have to win for our fans, for our work and then we’ll see what happens.

“The big problem that we are having this season in many games is that we create many chances to score but we don’t take them.

“If we want to fight for something important you must be clinical. If you don’t kill the game then it’s normal for the other team to push. Our expectation was to play a tough game against a good team looking to avoid relegation.

“They only way that we have to put a bit of pressure on the top four is to win. Today has been very positive to put that pressure on Tottenham. Football is not simple and anything can happen.”

Chelsea will next face third placed Liverpool at the Stamford Bridge next weekend.
