No chance

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has revealed that he would not swap Cristiano Ronaldo for Mohamed Salah if he was given the chance.

Ronaldo is still the Bernabeu talisman and continues to impress despite now being 33.

Despite having a poor first half of the season, he has excelled in 2018 and guided Real Madrid into the Champions League final.

Though, Mohamed Salah has arguably had an even more impressive season.

He has not had any blips in his campaign and finished with 43 goals in all competitions, even breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s record tally in a Premier League season.

Swapsies?

Though, Zinedine Zidane has laughed off suggestions that he would swap Ronaldo for Salah.

“No. I would not swap Cristiano or any of my players. Cristiano is the utmost. He’s the best, so he will be of utmost importance,” he is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

“I’m always calm because that’s the way I am, that’s my nature. My nature is calm and at the end, it’s better to have Cristiano, better to have Cristiano with you because he proves that every year.

“I believe that a player knows he may have a complex moment but for him, it’s the other way round.

“When he doesn’t score, he still knows he will score three or four times in a row. He knows he will get there, he can handle pressure and knows he will get there.

“Some players cannot handle pressure. For him, it’s the other way round., The more pressure you give him, the more you criticise him, the better he plays.”

Not slowing down

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed when he plans to retire from football and it’s certainly not anytime soon.

In fact, that is because the player has explained that he will be looking to carry on with football into his forties.

The Portugal star has one of the most illustrious careers in football and is still considered by many to be the best that has ever lived.

Though, that legacy is certainly not going to end any time soon as he looks to keep his performances up for another 8 years.

That is plenty of time to add to his huge trophy collection and break even more astonishing records, potentially starting against Liverpool this weekend.

Though, it’s his future that he has been speaking about this week and he is certainly confident that he can continue to dominate for years to come.

“Right now I have a biological age of 23,” he explained to Spanish TV show El Chiringuito, as cited by the Daily Mirror.

“I’ve still got a long time left, I can keep playing until I’m 41. I’m feeling good, happy, I can’t complain. We are playing another final on Saturday and the fans are behind Cristiano.

“I’ve been here for eight years and people always say 50 players are coming here but in the end, no-one comes.

“In September people think lots of players are going to come but the ones who take us to finals are always the same ones.

“The best players are already at Madrid. Bale, Benzema, (Lucas) Vazquez, (Marco) Asensio. They are all here.”

Dolores Aveiro reveals she wanted to abort Cristiano Ronaldo

The world of football should be thankful that Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother backed out of her plans to abort the Portuguese superstar just over 33 years ago.

As Cristiano Ronaldo prepares for the Champions League final on Saturday against Liverpool in Kiev and the World Cup, his mother has been speaking at a book launch in Sao Paulo.

The book is titled “Mãe coragem” – “Mother’s courage” and Dolores Aveiro reveals that she tried to abort Cristiano Ronaldo during her pregnancy.

According to reliable Brazilian website Globo Esporte, Dolores Aveiro said: “I already had three children, I tried to have an abortion and I could not. Thankfully, because Cristiano was the star that brightened my life. I want to tell women not to do that. Let them think and fight!”

Bad for Liverpool: Zinedine Zidane gives Real Madrid injury update

Liverpool blow

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has given an injury ahead of the Champions League final and Liverpool fans have a right to be worried.

The two sides are set to go head to head next weekend as both bid to add to their European Cup totals.

Los Blancos are looking for their third successive trophy while Liverpool are looking to add to their five honours.

Both sides are pretty evenly matched but the Reds were almost handed a huge boost when Cristiano Ronaldo suffered an injury in the last game against Bayern Munich.

Hopes dashed

Though, Zinedine Zidane has claimed that his star man is at “120 percent ahead of the game against Villarreal and subsequently fit for the Champions League final.

“Cristiano is at 120 percent,” Zidane explained in his press conference on Friday, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.

“He trained normally all week and he is ready [for Villarreal].

“I don’t think about injuries. It’s good to play [on Saturday] to find rhythm and intensity.

“We have to play well and be ready for the final. Nothing can replace the intensity of a match.”

“It would mean we’ve worked very well, that the message got through well,” he said. “I’m happy to be able to play the final, it’s important for me in my career as a coach.

“The most important final to me is this one, not the previous ones. We have to give everything.

“I’m very happy to have everyone healthy. I don’t like to have injuries. I want everyone available so we can work.

“To reach the final with everyone healthy is very positive. It’s the most important part.”

Arsene Wenger recalls how Arsenal nearly signed Cristiano Ronaldo

Close but no cigar

Now former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that the club nearly signed Cristiano Ronaldo before he signed for Manchester United.

The Portuguese star needs no introduction and has taken the world by storm since his move to Old Trafford and then onto Real Madrid.

Though, it could have been very different if Arsenal would have splashed the case for Ronaldo, instead baulking at the £12million fee.

What could have been

Speaking to Arsenal’s club website, as cited by Sky Sports, Arsene Wenger revealed just how close they came to signing Ronaldo.

“The obvious player [Arsenal missed out on] that comes to mind is Ronaldo,” he explained.

“He was here with his mother and we were very close. Then Man United came in and they had Carlos Queiroz at the time, who was their coach.

“United played against Sporting Lisbon and Ronaldo was outstanding and they signed him.

“Once we were at £4.5m, we were still in negotiations. David [Dein] met with [agent Jorge] Mendes in Paris and he was representing Sporting, so we were very close. But Man United went to £12m, which we could not afford at the time.”

Not the only time

Ronaldo wasn’t the only world class players that Arsenal went after either.

Apart from the well known Zlatan Ibrahimovic story, Arsene Wenger also went after Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique.

As expected, the move fell through because of agents in Pique’s case and Barcelona in Messi’s case.

“I met Cesc’s [Fabregas] parents and at the time we were interested in Messi and [Gerard] Pique as well.” he continued.

“We tried for the three but of course, it didn’t work out…because of the agents.

“With Messi, Barcelona didn’t want to lose him of course and they made [the offer] that was needed to keep the player at the club.”

11 days until the Champions League final

Liverpool’s Premier League season may have come to an end on Sunday but they still have another 11 days to wait until the biggest match of their campaign.

Real Madrid are aiming for a third successive Champions League title whilst Liverpool will be looking to crack their dominance.

On Tuesday, Marca reveal that Real Madrid are looking good fitness wise for the Champions League final in Kiev.

Cristiano Ronaldo back in training today

Real Madrid return to training on Tuesday and are expected to have a full compliment of players available.

Isco returned to action in the 6-0 win over Celta Vigo on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s two major injury worries – Cristiano Ronaldo and Dani Carvajal – are expected to return to training today.

Ronaldo injured his ankle in the recent El Clasico, when scoring Real Madrid’s first equaliser.

Ronaldo & Carvajal expected to play at Villarreal

Real Madrid still have one final match at Villarreal in La Liga this coming Saturday.

Both Ronaldo and Carvajal are expected to receive run outs in that game to fine tune their fitness for the Liverpool Champions League final.

With Gareth Bale in great form of late, Zinedine Zidane is now expected to have a fair few dilemmas on his hand for the Champions League final with Liverpool.

This remains Real Madrid’s most likely side to face Liverpool in Kiev:

Zinedine Zidane suggests how Neymar could play alongside Ronaldo

No complication

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has rejected claims that should the club sign Neymar, he would not be able to work well with Cristiano Ronaldo.

The French boss will face Liverpool in the Champions League final on May 26th but there has been much talk of their summer transfer targets.

One of them comes in the form of Neymar with suggestions Los Blancos could make a move for the player refusing to go away.

While he looks to be settled at Paris Saint-Germain, it has been a struggle at times in his debut season.

Remaining coy

When asked about a potential move for Neymar, Zidane remained coy on rumours and suggested that he is just worried about the Champions League final.

Though, he did go on to admit that there would be no issues between Cristiano Ronaldo and the Brazilian if they did happen to sign him.

‘At the moment, all I can tell you is I’m worried about what’s coming up,’ explained Zidane, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

‘After the final, we’ll talk with the club about next year and what changes will be made. But I can’t talk about anything like that [Neymar] at the moment.’

‘Good player are always compatible,’ he said. ‘I remember one year they said I wasn’t compatible to play with Djorkaeff. We won the World Cup together.

‘So good players can always play together. On the pitch, there is a chemistry.’

Zlatan Ibrahimovic appears on James Corden’s Late Late Show

Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been doing the rounds on American TV shows since joining LA Galaxy from Manchester United.

In many ways, Zlatan is perfect to impress an American audience and somehow his ego brings a lot to the table.

On Wednesday, Zlatan appeared with British comedian and actor James Corden on his Late Late Show and once again did not disappoint.

Zlatan jokes about that Cristiano Ronaldo statue

Zlatan appeared in a skit where he was a fortune teller with Corden.

And, also appeared on the chat show where he discussed his own statue going up in Sweden, as well as the infamous Cristiano Ronaldo bust that went viral.

Check the “related” section at the bottom of this article to show how this is far from the first time Zlatan Ibrahimovic has had a good laugh at Cristiano Ronaldo.

Zlatan’s epic start at LA Galaxy slows down

Whilst Zlatan Ibrahimovic made an epic start to life at LA Galaxy, in recent weeks things have not gone so well.

Famously, Zlatan came off the bench on debut and fired two goals – the first was spectacular – as LA Galaxy came from 3-0 down to beat local rivals Los Angeles FC 4-3.

The former AC Milan, Barcelona and Manchester United striker also scored away at Chicago Fire in a 1-0 win but the last few games have not gone well at all.

Zlatan has not scored since mid-April and LA Galaxy have lost three matches on the bounce.

Ibrahimovic has also been publicly critical of his LA Galaxy team mates.

Ramos Misses Penalty As Sevilla Edge Out Ronaldo-less Madrid

Sevilla held off a late fightback from Real Madrid, who were without Cristiano Ronaldo, to win 3-2 in a Spanish

Sevilla held off a late fightback from Real Madrid, who were without Cristiano Ronaldo, to win 3-2 in a Spanish LaLiga clash on Wednesday at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.

The defeat was Real Madrid’s sixth of the season.

The win boosted Sevilla’s chances of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Europa League.

Goals from Wissam Ben Yedder and Miguel Layun gave Sevilla a two-goal lead before the break.

Sergio Ramos missed a penalty in the 58th minute to hand the UEFA Champions League finalists a way back into the game.

Ramos also scored an own goal to hand Sevilla a 3-0 lead with six minutes left to play.

Borja Maryola made it 3-1 in the 87th minute before Ramos redeemed himself by scoring a penalty in the 90th minute.

Despite the defeat, Real Madrid remain third in the table with 72 points from 36 games while Sevilla moved to seventh position with 54 points from the same number of matches.

Zidane Confident Ronaldo Will Be Fit For Champions League Final

Zinedine Zidane believes Cristiano Ronaldo will be fit to play for Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

Zidane also said on Tuesday that Mohamed Salah deserves great credit for Liverpool’s surprise run in Europe but insisted the match in Kiev will not be a contest of the Egyptian against Ronaldo.

Ronaldo was forced off at half-time of Sunday’s Clasico between Real and Barcelona, which ended 2-2 at the Camp Nou, and Zidane has confirmed the Portuguese sprained his ankle.

There were fears the injury could affect Ronaldo’s chances of facing Liverpool on May 26 but Zidane is confident his star player will recover, along with fellow absentees Isco and Dani Carvajal.

“I think they will all be fine for the final – Cristiano, Isco, Carvajal,” Zidane said.

“The one more injured is Cristiano because it has just happened but it is going well, he is walking normally and he will be fine.”

Ronaldo was hurt during a collision with Gerard Pique just as he bundled in Real’s equaliser against Barcelona.

He played on for 31 minutes until the interval but did not emerge for the second half.

“It is a sprain, but there is no particular damage on the fibula, it is a small sprain and his ankle is stable,” Zidane said.

“Ronaldo, in terms of his injury, is incredible, that’s what he has this guy, he is already on the ground, walking, and feeling positive 48 hours later.

“Even if we do not know when he will resume with the team, the fact that he is already there 48 hours after shows his commitment, his desire to always want to play.”

Real visit Sevilla in La Liga on Wednesday but with the title race settled and their place in the top four safe, the key now is to avoid any further injury scares.

Liverpool, still battling for Champions League qualification in the Premier League, will not have the luxury of resting star players like Salah, who is considered key to them beating Real.

“Salah had a great season and I think he deserves a lot of credit for Liverpool being in the final, that’s for sure,” Zidane said.

“But in the end, I don’t like to call this a match of Cristiano against Salah. It will be Madrid against Liverpool, as always, that is the most important thing.”
