Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck set for move to Turkey

Reports have today emerged from Turkish media outlet Fotospor that Danny Welbeck is one of several names Turkish side Besiktas are interested in signing this summer.

A disappointing campaign

Besiktas finished the 2017/18 season in 4th place in the Turkish Super Lig. This means they have both missed out on the title and also only qualify for the Europa League next season as just the top two sides in the Turkish Super Lig earn a Champions League spot.

But Besiktas will feel hard done by as despite finishing 4th they were just one point off  2nd and four points off first.

So, they will be keen to ensure that doesn’t happen again next season and bringing in a player of Welbeck’s quality could certainly go some way to preventing that.

Loss of a star striker

As well as narrowly missing out on a Champions League spot this season, Besiktas have also had to say goodbye to their top goal scorer.

Talisca, who was on a two-year loan from Portuguese side Benfica has now returned back to his parent club.

Talisca enjoyed two very successful seasons in Turkey. In the 2016/17 season, he scored 13 goals in 22 league appearances for Besiktas. And in the 2017/18 season, he scored 20 in 47 appearances for Besiktas, including four in the Champions League.

Sadly for Besiktas, Talisca is likely to stay with Benfica next season, meaning they need to find a new top goal scorer.

Pushed out

While Welbeck, like quite a lot of Arsenal players, is injury prone, he is still a quality player. In 28 Premier League appearances last season, a fair few of which were as a sub, Welbeck still managed to score five times.

Also, with the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Arsenal over the past year, Welbeck is finding himself increasingly out of favour. So, he could benefit from a move elsewhere and Besiktas could suit him well.

Arsenal & UEFA Europa League

Arsenal progressed to the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night in Russia.

Whoever wins the Europa League is guaranteed entry into next season’s Champions League.

Considering the Gunners are sixth in the Premier League, and 13 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, winning the UEL is Arsenal’s best hope of playing UCL football next term.

After a 4-1 win in the first leg, Arsenal drew 2-2 with CSKA Moscow on Thursday.

It was a hairy night for Arsene Wenger as CSKA went 2-up on home soil. But a brilliant goal from Danny Welbeck, and a second from Aaron Ramsey, assured Arsenal’s place in the final four.

Danny Welbeck’s World Cup selection odds crash

Danny Welbeck’s chances of making England’s World Cup squad have never looked stronger with Ladbrokes.

The Arsenal ace is in a right vein of form right now and that’s led to punters backing him to book a spot on Gareth Southgate’s plane to Russia.

And having once been as big as 7/5, the bookies now make it just 1/2 he finds himself in the 23-man squad.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Welbeck is finding form at just the right time if he’s to make a late push for an England place – and that’s exactly what punters are expecting him to do.”

Arsenal player scores but gets trolled by everyone anyway

Welbeck

Danny Welbeck is a cult figure in the Premier League, and even when the forward manages to score, he still gets trolled on social media – and after putting Arsenal 2-1 up against struggling Southampton, the same thing happened.

Welbeck has enjoyed somewhat of a revival of late, being the main man in the Europa League when Alexandre Lacazette was injured and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was unable to play, and it seems that the player is now ready to see Arsenal through to the end of the season – and is actually fit to do so as well.

Against the Saints, he managed to get a goal and assist, and was trolled for trying to score a bicycle kick in the same week as Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimvoic – and did not get quite the same result.

Even Arsenal fans were mocking their own player, and noted that if Welbeck scores against you, it certainly is curtains when it comes to the Premier League, and Mark Hughes’ side are looking at life in the Championship now.

Iwobi Stars, Welbeck Bags Brace As Arsenal See Off Southampton

Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi was in Arsenal’s starting line-up in the English Premier League on Sunday and provided two assists

Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi was in Arsenal’s starting line-up in the English Premier League on Sunday and provided two assists as the Gunners came from a goal down to beat Southampton 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium.

Both teams ended the game with 10 men as Jack Stephens and Mohamed Elneny were both sent off.

Iwobi, who was one of the seven changes made by coach Arsene Wenger from Thursday’s UEFA Europa League clash against CSKA Moscow, provided two assists for Danny Welbeck’s brace.

The Super Eagles star also extended his goal drought to six games this season.

Iwobi last scored a league goal for Arsenal this season against Crystal Palace on the 20th of January, 2018.

Shane Long stunned Arsenal by scoring the opening goal in the 17th minute, but the goal was short-lived as Pierre Emerick Aubameyang drew the Gunners level 11 minutes later.

The goal was Aubameyang’s sixth in his seventh start for Arsenal since he arrived from Borussia Dortmund in January.

Welbeck made it 2-1 for Arsenal in the 38th minute of the first half when he fired in Iwobi’s delightful pass.

Charlie Austin restored parity for Southampton in the 73rd minute but Welbeck got the winner eight minutes later.

In stoppage time, Stephens was sent off for a shove on Jack Wilshere, who had torn his shirt by dragging on it. Elneny was also sent off for his involvement in the fracas that ensued.

Brighton vs Arsenal

Would anyone even be shocked if Brighton beat Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday?

If Swedish minnows Östersunds can win at the Emirates just a few weeks ago, of course Brighton can win.

Arsenal are coming into the match on terrible form. They were woeful in the Carabao Cup final against Man City losing 3-0, and Man City beat Arsenal 3-0 on Thursday night in the league.

The Gunners have lost four of their last five, and five of their last seven. How can Arsene Wenger keep his job?

And yet, of course, most Arsenal fans have little hope of seeing Wenger leave this summer.

Is Danny Welbeck injured?

There are fears on Saturday night that Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck is injured.

Welbeck played 90 minutes against Man City in the Premier League on Thursday.

The Gunners were back on the training pitch on Saturday before the Brighton game, but Welbeck was nowhere to be seen.

Of course, Alexandre Lacazette is also on the sidelines right now, while Olivier Giroud is now with Chelsea.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is available to lead the line against the Seagulls after his penalty miss against City.

But next Thursday night Arsenal take on AC Milan in the Europa League last-16.

Aubameyang is unable to play in the UEL for Arsenal this season, meaning Welbeck is the guy to call on.

Is Danny Welbeck good enough for Man City?

Amazingly this happened on Sky Sports on Saturday. Enjoy the video below.

Ostersundsbul…

In a shocking first-half display, the Gunners found themselves in a very sticky situation, as two goals from the Swedes made the atmosphere inside the Emirates turn very sour.

Goals from Ken Sema and an own goal off of Calum Chambers looked to have found Ostersunds a way back into this Europa League clash.

However, the Gunners came out for the second period all cylinders blazing to quickly halt Ostersunds’ excitement, scoring after just two minutes of the restart.

Graham Potter’s side must now score twice on the night to avoid elimination.
