Everyone makes the same Jones/Hazard joke after penalty call during Chelsea vs Man United

Viewers of the clash between Chelsea and Manchester United have taken to Twitter in numbers to make the same joke

Viewers of the clash between Chelsea and Manchester United have taken to Twitter in numbers to make the same joke this evening, after Phil Jones took Eden Hazard out to see a penalty awarded to the Blues.

Matchup

The two sides are currently locked in action at Wembley, in the final fixture of the English football calendar this season.

Both clubs came into proceedings desperate to clinch their first silverware of the campaign, after Manchester City claimed the Carabao Cup back in February, before sauntering to the Premier League title last month.

Teams

In front

The early exchanges at Wembley this evening saw little between the sides, with Chelsea just shading things in terms of chances created.

And it was the Blues who then went on to take the lead with 22 minutes on the clock, when a long ball from Cesc Fabregas was brilliantly latched onto by Eden Hazard, with the Belgian leaving Phil Jones in his wake as he burst through one on one with David De Gea.

From here, Jones made a last-ditch attempt to wrap an outstretched leg around Hazard to get a touch on the ball, but only succeeded in tripping Chelsea’s star man up, resulting in a penalty.

Hazard subsequently stepped up and slotted home the ensuing spot-kick with ease, sending David De Gea the wrong way.

‘Preview’

In truth, Jones looked largely uncomfortable over the course of the opening 45 minutes this evening, with his mistake, when it did come, having been predicted by many before it actually happened.

And, with England set to take on Belgium at this summer’s World Cup, viewers of the clash couldn’t help but feel as though they may have been getting a sneak preview of things to come between Jones and Eden Hazard in Russia in a little over a month’s time:

Bizarre Tripper/Hazard stat emerges following Tottenham 2-0 Watford

A surprising statistic surrounding the season assist numbers of Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard has been going viral online this evening, after the former set up Harry Kane for his side’s second goal versus Watford.

Matchup

The two sides went head to head at Wembley, with hosts Spurs having come into proceedings desperate for a bounce-back performance after failing to win any of their last 3 fixtures across all competitions.

Watford, meanwhile, had not picked up a victory from any of their last 6 outings, with the Hornets having their early-season excellence to thank for keeping them out of the Premier League relegation battle.

Teams

2-0

This evening’s clash in London saw Tottenham eventually emerge with a 2-0 victory, though Mauricio Pochettino’s men had it far from all their own way over the course of the 90 minutes at Wembley.

Goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane, in the end, proved the difference, though more clinical finishing on the part of Watford could so easily have thrown a spanner in the works for the hosts.

Assist tallies

In the aftermath of the clash, a hugely-surprising statistic comparing the creative exploits of Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier with those of Chelsea duo Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas has come to the fore online, after Trippier set Harry Kane up for Spurs’ second goal this evening:

This stat comes despite the fact that Trippier has started just 19 Premier League games this season, with Mauricio Pochettino having rotated the English stopper with summer signing Serge Aurier.

Chelsea forward, Eden Hazard has sent message to his “sad” team-mates.

The Belgium star told his teammates that this is the time to work together to rescue Chelsea’s season.

Chelsea were unable to keep up the chase on fourth-placed Tottenham on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham.

After the draw, Chelsea were booed off by a significant number of fans.

Hazard told Chelsea’s official website, “When you see the game we did everything, especially in the first half.

“This season isn’t going well, we made some mistakes and conceded a goal. Then, in front of goal we didn’t score, so that’s it, at the end of the game it’s 1-1 and we are all sad.

“We need to work together. There are six games left to play in the league and we will try everything to be in the top four at the end of the season.

“This season a lot of the games have been the same. I remember away at Manchester United, we were in control of the game and in the end we lost.

“Last week against Tottenham, we were in control in the first half and then we lost the game, so this season isn’t going well. We need to work together.

“I hope, for the Chelsea fans and ourselves, that we can achieve something.”

Cristiano Ronaldo demands the Liverpool player he wants instead of Hazard

Salah

Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly told Real Madrid to abandon their pursuit of Eden Hazard and focus on trying to land another Premier League star instead.

Ronaldo is a huge fan of Liverpool and Egypt player Mo Salah and wants to add him to the team, if not this summer, then the season afterwards.

The Portugal captain is someone who has a huge influence in the strategy for Real Madrid and by asking for a player, it will certainly have Florentino Perez thinking and possibly influenced by that.

Hazard

Of course, that leaves Eden Hazard in  tricky position, with the Chelsea winger claiming he would think about his future following the World Cup in Russia this summer, and it could well be the case that he decides to pen a new deal at Chelsea.

Thibaut Courtois had made noises about leaving – and then once his horror show at the Camp Nou made Real Madrid thinks twice, he then professed his loyalty to Chelsea, and claimed he would be there for the new season with or without a new deal.

That may be a boost for the Blues, but it begs the question of how much Eden Hazard is really rated in certain quarters – given Salah is no where near his age and is banging in goals, Hazard at 27-years-old is now having certain questions asked about him – and a good display at the World Cup will go a long way in showing how he really is world class and to show his doubters how wrong they are.

Sensational swap deal touted between Chelsea and Real Madrid

A report from Spanish outlet Diario Gol today has suggested that Chelsea and Real Madrid could engage in discussions over a monumental swap deal involving Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio this summer.

New role

27-year-old Chelsea attacker Hazard has endured a rather difficult season to date, having been forced into a central role by manager Antonio Conte over recent months due to the fitness and form struggles of Alvaro Morata.

This change of tactics has led to Hazard looking isolated and starved of service on numerous occasions over recent weeks, with the Belgian having made clear his frustration during such patches.

In turn, reports in Spain and England have suggested that the former Lille standout could be ready to push for a summer departure from the club, with Real Madrid the side most heavily-touted as a potential destination.

Switching clubs?

And, as per the aforementioned report from Diario Gol, Real could tempt Chelsea into parting ways with Hazard by offering up prodigious youngster Marco Asensio in part exchange.

Marco Asensio

Asensio, a 22-year-old attacking midfielder/winger, made the move to the Bernabeu from Mallorca in 2014, before impressive loan spells back at Mallorca and with Espanyol saw the Spanish international eventually break into Real’s first-team setup last season.

And he has since gone from strength-to-strength, racking up 8 goals and 5 assists across all competitions to this point in the campaign.

However, despite his growing reputation in the Spanish capital, reports over recent weeks have claimed that Asensio is worried about his game-time moving forward at the Bernabeu (14 La Liga starts this season), and would be open to the idea of a summer departure.

And, with Chelsea the club named as the most willing to splash out big-money on the 8-time capped La Roja international’s signature, a swap deal between the two clubs involving Asensio and Hazard is reportedly becoming an increasingly-likely possibility.

A report from EA Sports this afternoon has revealed that Chelsea star Eden Hazard has been by far and away the best dribbler in the Premier League to this point in the campaign.

New role

27-year-old attacker Hazard has endured a rather difficult season to date, having been forced into a central role by manager Antonio Conte due to the fitness and form struggles of Alvaro Morata.

However, Hazard has still managed to showcase his class for the most-part (though he has hit a particularly rough patch of form over the last few weeks), with the Belgian international having racked up 15 goals and 6 assists across all competitions.

Specialist

The stellar form of the likes of Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne has led many to criticize Hazard for not being decisive enough to this point in the campaign, though, with Chelsea’s struggles as a team having magnified any and all individual shortcomings on the pitch.

But, as per the aforementioned report from EA Sports this afternoon, one aspect of Hazard’s game which has certainly not been lacking this season has been the dribbling of the 82-time capped Red Devils’ international.

With just 8 fixtures left to play in the English top-flight, Hazard has successfully completed 128 dribbles, a massive 41 more than nearest challenger Wilfried Zaha (87 successful dribbles).

Next up for Chelsea is a crunch clash with London rivals Tottenham on the 1st of April, following the upcoming rounds of international fixtures.

Chelsea fans continue to discuss contrasting form of 2 players during Leicester clash

Supporters of Chelsea have taken to Twitter during their side’s clash with Leicester this evening to discuss the contrasting spells

Supporters of Chelsea have taken to Twitter during their side’s clash with Leicester this evening to discuss the contrasting spells of form currently being endured by Willian and Eden Hazard.

Matchup

The two sides are currently locked in action at the King Power Stadium, in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Hosts Leicester came into proceedings on the back of a 4-match unbeaten run, including a 4-1 demolition of West Bromwich Albion last time out.

Chelsea, meanwhile, were hoping to bounce back after falling to defeats in 3 of their last 4 outings, the latest of which saw the Blues ousted from the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona.

Teams

1-0

The first-half this afternoon saw clear-cut chances few and far between, though visitors Chelsea were the side clearly on top for the vast majority of the opening 45 minutes.

And the dominance of the away side paid off 3 minutes before the interval, as Willian’s driving run and perfectly-weighted pass set Alvaro Morata through one-on-one with Kasper Schmeichel, with the Spaniard opening up his body to angle a gorgeous finish past the onrushing Dane at the far post.

1-1

The second-half saw Leicester come into the game more, with Jamie Vardy skying a huge headed chance and Riyad Mahrez looking dangerous.

But the hosts’ valiant efforts were finally rewarded 15 minutes from time, when Vardy eventually bundled home following a prolonged goalmouth scramble in the Chelsea box.

Contrast

Chelsea created very little over the opening half-hour following the interval, with large sections of the club’s fans having brought up the worrying form of Eden Hazard.

The Belgian looked some way short of his best this evening, consistently giving the ball away and being completely outshone by fellow Blues’ attacker Willian.

And the contrasting form of the two stars was a point which droves of Chelsea fans have since taken to Twitter to discuss, as highlighted below:

Barcelona vs Chelsea: What Hazard must do to be compared with Iniesta – Conte

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte has warned forward, Eden Hazard to win more trophies if he wants to be compared with

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte has warned forward, Eden Hazard to win more trophies if he wants to be compared with players like Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta.

Conte said this ahead of Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League second leg round of 16 tie with Barcelona at Nou Camp on Wednesday night.

Conte’s men will hope to win the match against the Catalan club so as to qualify for the quarter finals of the competition after playing a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Stamford Bridge.

Conte, however, admits that Hazard has a long way to go to match Iniesta’s medal haul, adding that it was pointless comparing the pair on the pitch due to their different roles.

“Hazard has to start winning important trophies in his career,” Conte told reporters ahead of Barca clash.

“We are talking about two different players.

“Hazard is more of a No.10, Iniesta is more of a midfielder who stays in the centre of Barcelona’s play.

“We are talking about two different players.

“Hazard can play No.10 but for me he can also play as false 9.

“These are two different players with different careers, Iniesta has won a lot in his career, Hazard has to start winning important trophies in his career,” he said.

Premier League: Conte reveals why he replaced Hazard in 2-1 loss to Man Utd

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, has claimed he took Eden Hazard off during their 2-1 defeat at Manchester United on Sunday

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, has claimed he took Eden Hazard off during their 2-1 defeat at Manchester United on Sunday , because “he was losing energy”.

Conte also told the club’s official website, that it was important for the team “to continue with the same performance level for 90 minutes”.

The Premier League champions took the lead after Willian exchanged passes with Hazard, before crashing the ball past David De Gea.

Lukaku equalized before the interval, finishing off a fine move that involved Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial.

The Belgium striker, who has been criticized roundly for not having an impact in big games, then crossed for substitute Jesse Lingard to head in the winner.

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has said that playing against Liverpool means more to him than facing his former club, Chelsea.

Mourinho also talked about Chelsea stars: Hazard and Willian ahead of the Sunday clash at Old Trafford.

He told reporters, “It’s any normal game and probably to play Liverpool in a couple of weeks’ time means more.

“Because for my club — and everyone knows that the most important thing is not me — and my club’s supporters to play Liverpool really has a special meaning.

“That’s the way I have to look at things.

“And I don’t have any bad feeling in relation to Chelsea Football Club to say, ‘Oh, I’m going to play against my former club, I am going to prove this, I am going to prove that.’

“I’m not going to prove anything. In fact, every club I left — by my decision or by the board, which Chelsea was the only one — every one of my former clubs I have a very good feeling.

“I’ve never played against Inter since I left, but I played against Porto, Real Madrid and Chelsea. The feeling is just a good one. Not a special feeling.”

Mourinho deployed Ander Herrera to mark Eden Hazard out of the game in last year’s 2-0 win for United at Old Trafford.

Talking of Belgian forward, Mourinho added, “He is a player very difficult to neutralise.”

“Of course, he is a very important player for them, but Willian is very important for them.

“They have other players that are very important, so it’s difficult to neutralise because of his individual qualities.”
