Door left open

Former Manchester City star Yaya Toure has refused to rule out a move to rivals Manchester United when he moves this summer.

The player confirmed that he would leave the club in the off-season and has now officially left the club after not renewing his contract.

That means that he is free to join any club and while West Ham have been linked, so have Manchester United.

When asked about Michael Carrick and whether he could even be a replacement for him, Yaya was coy over a move.

‘Yeah, he just left. Let’s see, let’s see,’ he explained to the Manchester Evening News

‘I don’t rule big teams out. The big teams are very important for me. What they want to achieve, the way they want to go, for me is very important.

I want to go somewhere I can win and achieve. It’s going to be hard one day to play against City, but I have to do that. It is part of my job.’

Admiration

Yaya has also been talking about rival midfielder Paul Pogba.

The Ivorian is a very big fan of the Frenchman and has explained that the media treat him unfairly.

‘I love Paul Pogba,’ he explained.

‘It’s difficult because of the way the media has treated him. We don’t have the same characteristics because for me I was involved in all the ball, I ran everywhere.

‘I liked that. I was prepared for that. I was working for that for a long time. When I was in the academy in Africa I had to run everywhere, get box to box in 50 seconds. It’s something I’ve been loving to do.

‘Pogba is the same size, power – but different in the way he wants to go. Technically as well, the ability to score goals as well. It is a player I want to play with, to be honest, just to teach him some things.’

Manchester City set to raid Leicester City for star winger

According to the Manchester Evening News, Premier League winners Manchester City are poised to make Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez

According to the Manchester Evening News, Premier League winners Manchester City are poised to make Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez their first signing of the summer.

Previous dealings

The Mahrez to Manchester City link is not a new one as it was well documented in this past January transfer window that City wished to pry the Algerian away from the King Power Stadium.

However, given the importance of Mahrez to the Foxes, they were not willing to let such a key player leave in the middle of the season for a small fee.

Instead, Leicester’s proposed valuation of Mahrez was said to be in the region of £95 million. A price tag that was a bit steep even for today’s ridiculously inflated transfer market.

This hefty price tag resulted in Manchester City backing down from the deal. Subsequently, Mahrez would go absent without leave in January and was fined two weeks wages.

Mahrez would eventually earn his way back into the starting eleven and finish this past season on 12 goals and 11 assists in 36 league games.

A fresh asking price

This solid season clearly showed Pep that Mahrez could still be a real asset to his title-winning side. As a result, negotiations have reopened between the two sides.

Unlike in January though, Leicester seem much more willing to negotiate sensibly with City. This time they are supposedly asking for a fee of around £60 million. £35 million less than they wanted just five months earlier.

Manchester City-Leicester swap deal mooted

Moreover, it is also understood that City would prefer to pay around £50 million plus a player for Mahrez, rather than spending above £60 million.

The player City are supposedly willing to include in the Mahrez deal is Patrick Roberts.

Roberts has made just three appearances for City’s first teams. But he has spent the last few seasons on loan at Celtic where he has impressed on numerous occasions. Including last season’s Champions League where he would score the equaliser against his parent club City.

Of course, Roberts is still not on the level of Mahrez. But he is just 21 and a player with his potential plus £50 million for Mahrez does sound like a very solid deal for the Foxes.

Sergio Aguero to Chelsea transfer odds

Will Sergio Aguero still be a Man City player at the start of the 2018-19 season?

Aguero had an injury-hit season as Man City won the Premier League this year.

The Argentine international striker was forced on the sidelines during the season after he was involved in car crash in Amsterdam.

However Aguero still had a successful year. He scored 21 goals in the Premier League; he was the third highest scorer after Mo Salah and Harry Kane.

But there’s now plenty of chatter that Aguero may leave Man City. And the bookies have slashed odds on Aguero leaving Manchester to join Chelsea in the summer.

Unibet: Sergio Aguero transfer odds

The bookies have Aguero priced at 30/1 to join Chelsea in the off-season.

The shortest odds (1/40) remain on Aguero still being at Man City at the start of next term.

Atletico Madrid are priced at 6/1 to sign Aguero for a second spell at the Rojiblancos, while FC Barcelona are 20/1 to sign Kun this summer.

Gigi Buffon to Liverpool odds slashed

Could Italian legend Gigi Buffon move to the Premier League this summer?

Last week Buffon confirmed that he’s leaving Juventus this summer.

After 17-years in Turin, Buffon is still very much in demand. Indeed some of the biggest clubs in world football are said to be battling over Buffon’s signature this summer.

Of course, Buffon should have a quiet summer after Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup.

Liverpool are the third favourites to sign Buffon. Liverpool are 4/1 to complete that transfer.

PSG are the favourites with the bookies to sign the stopper at 1/20.

Real Madrid are the second favourites at 3/1 to sign Buffon.

Manchester City outbid Tottenham for Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt

Tottenham Hotspur’s accepted offer of 55m euros for Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt has been countered by Manchester City who have offered 60m euros, according to journalist Nicolo Schira.

Spurs have held a long-term interest in the Dutch defender and are keen to sign him as a replacement for the departing Toby Alderweireld.

However, with Pep Guardiola’s club now involved the North London club’s chances of landing de Ligt have been reduced.

Tottenham are looking to make their fourth signing from Ajax in the last six years, having purchased Jan Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen and Davinson Sanchez from the Dutch club.

Tottenham shelled out a substantial 42m euros last summer for Sanchez and hope to land another central-defender from Ajax.

Although their task of securing de Ligt’s signature has been made a great deal tougher with big-spender City’s looking to get involved.

Despite having landed Aymeric Laporte from Atletic Bilbao back in January, the Premier League champions hope to add another defender and outbid Spurs for Ajax’s 18-year-old.

The Ajax youth product has made a name for himself in Holland this season and last and is now one of the most highly sought-after youngsters on the continent.

Last month, De Ligt said:

“I am going to make a decision with my head, not based on money offers.

“I think some players would be tempted when they get massive offers. But compared to ordinary people I think I earn a huge wage right now, anyway.

“My next step just has to be right for me when I look at the team and where and how I will live.”

With the opportunity of working with either Mauricio Pochettino or Pep Guardiola, de Ligt is likely to be tempted by both offers.

Man City rebuffed in first bid for Napoli’s Jorginho

According to the latest reports stemming from Italy this morning, Premier League champions Manchester City have seen their first official

According to the latest reports stemming from Italy this morning, Premier League champions Manchester City have seen their first official offer for Napoli midfielder Jorginho rejected by the Partenopei.

Metronome

Jorginho, a Brazilian-born Italian international, joined Napoli from Hellas Verona for 9.5 million Euro in 2014, since going on to develop into one of the finest midfielders in Serie A.

In an incredible statistic, it was revealed last summer that the 26-year-old made more passes per game than any other player in Europe’s top 5 leagues last season (as per Football-Italia.net).

Sitting in his deep-lying midfield berth, the Verona youth product has flourished behind Napoli’s fearsome attacking quartet of Marek Hamsik, Jose Callejon, Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens, and has started 32 of his side’s 37 Serie A fixtures to this point in the campaign.

PL links

Despite his near-indispensable presence in Maurizio Sarri’s Partneopei squad, though, Jorginho has often been linked with a departure from the San Paolo over recent seasons, with all of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United having long been touted as potential destinations.

However, a number of reports in the English media last month insisted that it was in fact Manchester City that had jumped firmly to the front of the queue for Jorginho, with some outlets having even gone as far as to suggest that the Citizens had already tied up a deal for the gifted midfielder.

Etihad bound?

Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, has spoken out on several occasions with regards to his client’s links to the Premier League over the last couple of months, but had always remained coy on the interest of individual clubs.

However, speaking in an interview with CalcioNapoli24 this past Wednesday, Santos finally confirmed the interest of Manchester City, before endorsing a potential move to the Etihad for his client by revealing that finding an agreement between he and the Citizens ‘won’t be a problem’.

‘Jorginho is still under contract, but if Napoli find an agreement with City then he goes to Manchester.’

‘Finding an agreement with the English won’t be a problem, considering their importance, but I repeat it depends on Napoli as the player is tied to the Azzurri for two more years.’

Knocked back

But, as per the aforementioned updates stemming from Italy this morning, City’s move for Jorginho may not be quite as straightforward as they had first hoped, amid claims that the Sky Blues have been informed that their opening offer was a full 20 million Euro short of Napoli’s valuation of their star midfielder.

The Corriere del Mezzogiorno report that City opened their bidding with a 50 million Euro offer, only to be informed by the board in Naples that they will not enter into negotiations unless a bid of at least 70 million Euro is to arrive.

The newspaper also states that Jorginho’s future could hinge on whether or not Maurizio Sarri remains at the club, amid heavy links between the Italian tactician and Chelsea.

According to Yahoo Sports, Premier League champions Manchester City have offered Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta a dual-role at the Etihad for next season.

End of an era

As has been reported for some time, Iniesta is set to depart the Camp Nou this summer, with a move to the Chinese Super League having been labelled as imminent up until a couple of weeks ago.

The 125-time capped La Roja international, who has never lined out for another club, has been on the books of Barca since 1996, and has racked up an incredible 32 major trophies since making his first-team bow in 2002.

The last 16 years have seen Iniesta go on to establish himself as not only one of the greatest midfielders in the club’s storied history, but also in the history of football as a whole.

Emotional goodbye

Iniesta’s tears on the bench following his substitution during Barca’s 5-0 Copa Del Rey final demolition of Sevilla last month left just an official announcement of his departure from the Camp Nou to be made, with the Spaniard having provided just that on the 27th of April:

Manchester bound?

Tributes have since poured in for Iniesta, with a second announcement to make clear his next destination having been expected over the last 3 weeks.

However, this confirmation has yet to come, with moves to all of China, Japan, America, PSG and, most recently, Manchester City having been touted for the Spaniard.

And, as per the aforementioned report from Yahoo Sports this afternoon, City’s offer to Iniesta involves more than just a playing role.

Sam Elliott’s story claims that the board at the Etihad have reached out to Iniesta with regards to becoming a player-coach at the club next season, amid mounting reports that Mikel Arteta is set to become the new manager of Arsenal.

The report goes on to state that the Barca legend is giving serious thought to the offer, though it remains to be seen whether Iniesta has actually changed his mind after previously stating that he would not join another European club due to the possibility of having to face off against the Blaugrana in European competition in the future.

The agent of Napoli midfielder Jorginho has confirmed that should Manchester City successfully agree a deal with the Italian club, the player will be heading to the Premier League champions.

The Italian has been linked with moves to Manchester United and Liverpool over recent months, however, Pep Guardiola’s side look the most likely to capture the players signature.

Manchester City are keen on adding a midfielder this summer in order to provide cover for both Fernandinho and David Silva next season.

Agreement with City

Jorginho

The Italian midfielder has contributed four goals and four assists in 37 appearances as a defensive midfielder this season playing a key role in helping Napoli to an impressive second-place finish.

It is reported that Jorginho has a transfer value of just 40 million euros which makes the 26-year-old a very attractive signing.

Man City are understood to be confident of landing Jorginho this summer and must agree a fee with the Serie A club, according to the player’s agent.

Joao Santos told Calcio Napoli:

“If Napoli finds an agreement with City, the player goes to Manchester.

“Finding an agreement with the English will not be a problem considering the importance of the team but I repeat that decision is for Napoli.”

Pep Guardiola compares De Bruyne and David Silva to Iniesta and Xavi

Legendary midfielders Manchester City boss has discussed what it is like having Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva in midfield

Legendary midfielders

Manchester City boss has discussed what it is like having Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva in midfield to when he managed Andres Iniesta and Xavi.

The former Barcelona boss has managed some incredible midfielders in his time as manager and that is arguably why he succeeds as much as he does.

Barcelona’s treble team showcased the importance of players such as Iniesta and Xavi, who are two of the greatest midfielders of this era.

Though, Guardiola is now in control of a midfield with similar quality, but with differing styles.

That has lead to many comparisons but Pep has compared the two sets of players and how their styles differ, especially Kevin De Bruyne.

Comparison

The Etihad boss has explained that David Silva is very much a mix of both Iniesta and Xavi, while Kevin De Bruyne is a different player altogether.

Though, if De Bruyne is not on the move, Guardiola claims he is not as effective as the other three.

“If we had so much success here [Manchester] and in Barcelona, that’s because of the central midfielders,” Guardiola explained to ESPN.

“Xavi was a player with outstanding control and dynamic, he couldn’t lose the ball.”

“He could control the game rhythm, reading perfectly when to accelerate … Andres is similar, but always changing the pace.

“David Silva is a mixture between both of them. David also knows when to control and when to accelerate.

“And Kevin is exuberant … He is not a controller, he is more dynamic, coming from behind, finishing, crossing, appearing here, then there, defending, attacking … He is a complete player, less control and much more movement. When he stops he is not that effective as Xavi, David and Andres.”

Man City’s Gabriel Jesus reveals he’s nearly at best ahead of World Cup

Perfect timing Manchester City and Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus has revealed that he is almost back to his best ahead

Perfect timing

Manchester City and Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus has revealed that he is almost back to his best ahead of the World Cup in Russia this summer.

The Brazilian has had a bit of an injury-hit season and has had to sit behind Sergio Aguero when he has been fit.

The Argentine was a big part of City’s success this season and that has meant that Jesus has found game time hard to come by.

Though, he is expected to lead the line for his country this summer and he’s hitting form at the right time.

Ready

This comes after the player explained following the West Ham game that he was returning to his best football.

“I, particularly speaking, have had much better games. However, I am returning normally to my best football calmly,” he explained to ESPN.

“I am very self-critical and always will be. I think this makes me want to improve, always.

“But just because I’m self-critical and say what I thought of my performance in a game, it doesn’t mean I will bring myself down, ever.

“This is a point that just makes me improve. If I see that I didn’t do well, I am going to want to get better, always. This only helps me out.”

While Jesus would no doubt have been frustrated with not playing so much for Man City, he will go into the World Cup fresh.

Though, the player himself has admitted that he will be ‘less worn out’ when he gets there but it won’t make that big of a difference.

“It depends. I, particularly, in my case, I don’t think it would be a problem, because I practice very hard, I take care of myself and I’m young.

“So I always want to run, I always want to play. But, of course, I will get there a little less worn out.”

Arsenal fans get excited about what Arsene Wenger said about Mikel Arteta

Who will replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal? After 22 years at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger will clear out his office on

Who will replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal?

After 22 years at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger will clear out his office on Thursday.

It truly marks the end of an era at Arsenal and there is a huge amount of speculation as to what the Gunners will do next.

Despite the likes of Massimiliano Allegri and Luis Enrique being linked with Arsenal, the current favourite is Mikel Arteta.

Mikel Arteta to hold talks with Arsenal today

As a former Arsenal captain, and after learning the trade under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Arteta looks well suited to replacing Arsene Wenger.

According to Sky Sports on Thursday, Mikel Arteta will hold talks with Arsenal having emerged as the leading candidate.

There is still plenty of time for all this to happen though, with Arsenal reportedly keen to have their new man in charge before the World Cup starts in June.

Arsenal fans get excited about Arteta

Initially, Arsenal fans struggled to get too excited about Mikel Arteta taking over from Arsene Wenger.

If there was to be a former captain replacing Wenger, many Gooners would prefer Patrick Vieira.

However, as the days have gone on, Arsenal fans certainly seem to be warming to Arteta, who is spoken highly of by Pep Guardiola.

Wenger backed Arteta in 2015!

On Thursday, an old article on the Arsenal website has started to go viral and looks somewhat prophetic right now.

It features Arsene Wenger talking about Arteta and his potential managerial career all the way back in 2015.

Wenger: “Just through his behaviour, his focus on getting everything right in the team, he has a huge influence. He has great experience and is respected throughout the squad.

“I really hope Mikel considers going into coaching. When you manage, you want to see your players continue and see them give their experience and knowledge back.

“You want them to give their expertise of the way we want to play football and the way we want to behave. It would be great if someone like Mikel went into management, so somewhere the spirit of our game can survive through the players who have played for us.

“But at the moment I must say Mikel is still here as a football player. The first thing in life, when you sign the contract you have to give absolutely everything to the job you have signed for and I think he does that very well.

“He has the quality to be a manager in the future I’m sure, but at the moment he gives his focus on the job as a player and gives absolutely everything.”
