No chance

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has revealed that he would not swap Cristiano Ronaldo for Mohamed Salah if he was given the chance.

Ronaldo is still the Bernabeu talisman and continues to impress despite now being 33.

Despite having a poor first half of the season, he has excelled in 2018 and guided Real Madrid into the Champions League final.

Though, Mohamed Salah has arguably had an even more impressive season.

He has not had any blips in his campaign and finished with 43 goals in all competitions, even breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s record tally in a Premier League season.

Swapsies?

Though, Zinedine Zidane has laughed off suggestions that he would swap Ronaldo for Salah.

“No. I would not swap Cristiano or any of my players. Cristiano is the utmost. He’s the best, so he will be of utmost importance,” he is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

“I’m always calm because that’s the way I am, that’s my nature. My nature is calm and at the end, it’s better to have Cristiano, better to have Cristiano with you because he proves that every year.

“I believe that a player knows he may have a complex moment but for him, it’s the other way round.

“When he doesn’t score, he still knows he will score three or four times in a row. He knows he will get there, he can handle pressure and knows he will get there.

“Some players cannot handle pressure. For him, it’s the other way round., The more pressure you give him, the more you criticise him, the better he plays.”

Confident

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has explained why he does not think Mohamed Salah will leave the club after his incredible season.

The Egyptian star notched 43 goals in all competitions and has been linked with a huge move to Real Madrid.

Though, he’s only been at Liverpool for one season and with the club on the brink of European glory, he could be set to stick around.

‘He loves it here’

Now, speaking on Channel 4 documentary, Mo Salah: A Football Fairy Tale, Klopp seems confident he will be staying.

‘He went to Italy he was outstanding. It’s all about the potential, about skills when you see it’, he explained, as cited by the Daily Mail.

‘And even Mo needs the right circumstances. This club has the right circumstances, now he can deliver.

‘There are not 10 better places in the world of football than Liverpool. If you go for the weather then maybe Spain is a good idea, if you want to see the Eiffel Tower then you have to go to Paris.

‘My thought is that he loves it here and I’m as sure as I can be that he wants to stay here.’

Mo Salah during the UEFA Champions League Quarter Final Second Leg match between Manchester City and Liverpool at Etihad Stadium on April 10, 2018 in Manchester, England.

When asked about Salah’s failure to break into the Chelsea team, Klopp also explained that it certainly wasn’t down to the players’ ability.

‘He was a kid when he came to Chelsea, and Chelsea had a squad that was unbelievable’, he continued.

‘Kevin De Bruyne didn’t play in that squad. That says a lot. We can all agree Jose Mourinho is a fantastic manager. Sometimes things are like that.’

Another Premier League season comes to a close

The 2017/18 Premier League season drew to a close on Sunday afternoon after 9 months of madness, chaos and havoc.

The record books were re-written throughout the season with Manchester City becoming the first team ever to reach 100 points whilst winning the most games and scoring the most goals of any team ever to play in the Premier League.

Manchester United finished as runners up to their neighbours whilst Tottenham, who spent the season at Wembley, finished third.

The last Champions League spot was taken by Liverpool who will play in the final of the competition on May 26 against Real Madrid.

Stoke, West Brom and Swansea were all relegated after one of the most remarkable relegation battles in recent history.

Crystal Palace became the first team in over a century to lose their first seven games of the season and still stay up. Incredibly, The Eagles finished 11th.

Burnley were the Premier League’s surprise package as they finished seventh and sealed a Europa League spot behind the disappointing Chelsea and Arsenal.

After a thrilling campaign, here is our list of the top 10 players in 2017/2018

The top 10 players of the Premier League season

10: Heung-Min Son

LONDON, ENGLAND – JANUARY 04: Heung-Min Son of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates after scoring his sides first goal during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United at Wembley Stadium on January 4, 2018 in London, England. (Photo by Julian Finney/Getty Images)

Heung-Min Son is one of the most under appreciated players in the Premier League.

The South Korea international finished the season with 12 goals and 6 assists to his name and put in some incredible performances throughout the campaign.

Son is often in the shadow of Tottenham’s English duo: Dele Alli and Harry Kane which is largely unfair due to the consistency of Son’s performances.

The 25 year old played in all but one of Tottenham’s league fixtures this term and helped guide Spurs to their third consecutive top three finish.

Son scored one of the goals of the season when he hit this ridiculous strike against West Ham in January.

9: Leroy Sane

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND – SEPTEMBER 26: Leroy Sane of Manchester City in action during the UEFA Champions League group F match between Manchester City and Shakhtar Donetsk at Etihad Stadium on September 26, 2017 in Manchester, United Kingdom. (Photo by Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images)

Leroy Sane was one of the most important figures for Manchester City this term. The young German international formed an incredible attacking trio with Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero.

Sane contributed to just under 24% of all of Manchester City’s goals this season as he ended the year with 10 goals and 15 assists.

At just 22 years old, we can expect bigger and better things from the former Schalke man who has surely earned himself a place in Germany’s squad for the World Cup.

Sane picked up a hat-trick of assists as City beat Brighton 3-1 in the penultimate match of the season, the match that saw City break the Premier League’s record points total.

8: James Tarkowski

STOKE ON TRENT, ENGLAND – APRIL 22: James Tarkowski of Burnley arrives ahead of the Premier League match between Stoke City and Burnley at Bet365 Stadium on April 22, 2018 in Stoke on Trent, England. (Photo by Matthew Lewis/Getty Images)

Burnley were the surprise package of the season as Sean Dyche’s men finished seventh in the table.

Many had predicted that Burnley would be relegated at the beginning of the season but The Clarets ended the campaign in the Europa League spots.

Burnley conceded just 39 goals during the season, largely down to the fantastic displays of James Tarkowski.

The former Brentford centre back started the season relatively unknown but he is now one of the league’s best defenders.

The 25 year old won his first England cap in March after impressing Gareth Southgate and was even on the six-man shortlist for the Premier League player of the season.

7: David Silva

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND – DECEMBER 03: David Silva of Manchester City celebrates scoring his sides second goal during the Premier League match between Manchester City and West Ham United at Etihad Stadium on December 3, 2017 in Manchester, England. (Photo by Clive Brunskill/Getty Images)

Manchester City had many stand-out players this season but it is hard to forget how good David Silva really was this year.

Despite turning 32 in January, the Spaniard scored 9 goals and picked up 11 assists throughout the season and was named in the PFA team of the season.

Silva picked up 8 of his 11 assists in the first 14 matches of the season before a family issue kept the former Valencia playmaker out of action for large parts of the remainder of the season.

Silva’s brilliant performances earned him a new contract at Manchester City keeping him at the Etihad until the summer of 2020.

6: Raheem Sterling

Sterling Manchester City Man City

Raheem Sterling has received tons of criticism since joining Manchester City from Liverpool in 2015.

The England international had a brilliant season for the Champions and silenced all of his critics.

The 23 year old had his best goal scoring season to date as he hit the back of the net 18 times whilst providing 13 assists in the process. He contributed to just under a third of City’s goals throughout the season.

Sterling’s late goals won City plenty of matches and once he manages to stop spurning easy chances, he will surely be able to hit the 25 goal mark in an upcoming season.

5: Roberto Firmino

Roberto Firmino was one of the best players of the season but was of course overlooked by many due to the fantastic Mohamed Salah.

Firmino contributed toward 22 of Liverpool’s 84 goals this term but his unique style of play made him one of the best players to watch.

Firmino is not like a traditional forward as he would often be seen playing much deeper. The Brazilian made a habit of his ‘no-look’ finish which was incredible to watch.

The Liverpool striker has surely earned himself a place in Brazil’s line up in Russia this summer.

4: Harry kane

LONDON, ENGLAND – MAY 13: Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates after scoring his sides first goal during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City at Wembley Stadium on May 13, 2018 in London, England. (Photo by Warren Little/Getty Images)

Harry Kane had yet another remarkable season for Tottenham as he scored 30 goals, his Premier League best ever goal scoring season.

Kane may not have won the Golden Boot but he did guide Spurs to third in a season where many had predicted that Tottenham would struggle.

Kane became Tottenham’s record Premier League goal scorer when he netted against Liverpool at Anfield in February.

England’s star striker was unable to break his August curse but followed up with 8 goals in his next 6 matches.

If Kane hadn’t suffered his ankle injury against Bournemouth, the Tottenham striker would surely have scored even more.

3: David De Gea

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND – FEBRUARY 25: David De Gea of Manchester United celebrates after his sides second goal during the Premier League match between Manchester United and Chelsea at Old Trafford on February 25, 2018 in Manchester, England. (Photo by Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images)

David De Gea is surely not human. The Spaniard has established himself as the best goalkeeper in the world and performed constantly at the highest level throughout the season.

Manchester United may not have won the title, but they could have finished far lower than second if it were”t for their fantastic goalkeeper.

De Gea won the Golden Glove this term after keeping 18 clean sheets. The former Atletico Madrid stopper conceded just 28 goals throughout the campaign and made more saves than any other Premier League goalkeeper.

De Gea even equalled the Premier League record of most saves in a single match when United faced Arsenal at the Emirates in December.

2: Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne was absolutely fantastic this season. The Belgian playmaker was pivotal in City’s title challenge.

Chelsea fans must really regret the club’s decision to offload De Bruyne who is without a doubt, one of the best midfielders in the world.

De Bruyne picked up 16 assists this term whilst scoring 8 goals. He scored his first goal of the season against his former club, Chelsea, with a stunning strike that Thibaut Courtois could get nowhere near to.

De Bruyne played in all but one of City’s league matches this season and will be one of the players to watch in Russia this summer.

1: Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah Golden Boot

Mohamed Salah following the Premier League match between Liverpool and Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield on May 13, 2018 in Liverpool, England.

It was obvious. Mohamed Salah was absolutely phenomenal this season.

The Egyptian arrived at Anfield just 2 years after leaving Chelsea where he had a miserable stint in the Premier League. Salah tore Serie A apart but few could have predicted just how good he could become in England.

The 25 year old won the PFA, FWA and Premier League player of the season whilst winning the Premier League’s golden boot after he netted 32 goals, a Premier League record.

All of these achievements and Salah isn’t even a striker.

The Egyptian was so good this year that many believe that he as a genuine chance of winning the Ballon d’Or ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is delighted at the manner his side reacted to the pressure of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League competition.

The Reds defeated Brighton 4-0 to seal fourth spot in the English Premier League table.

Goals from Mohamed Salah, Dejan Louvren, Dominic Solanke and Andy Robertson sealed a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

“The boys had pressure on them, massive for the last few weeks, it is fantastic to qualify this year. It’s a massive achievement,” Klopp told the BBC after his side’s win over Brighton.

“We did it in an impressive manner. We tried to win the game from the first second. A point was enough but I have no real idea how to go for a point. We could have scored many more but I’m glad we didn’t, Brighton did not deserve that after a really good season.

“What the boys did this season was unbelievable. We missed Adam Lallana for the whole year and I can’t believe we have achieved this without him.

“I’m really proud of the boys, a nearly perfect season. We had no chance to challenge Man City so the only thing you can go for is a Champions League spot. It is a big thing.

“We had a few more chances today, it’s fantastic that Mo Salah could break the record and Dom and Robertson could score. It’s hard to be a young player in this fantastic side, Solanke has struggled a bit but he has shown up today. I’m really happy for him.”

Klopp also allayed fears on James Milner’s availability for the UEFA Champions League final in two weeks’ time.

“James Milner will be fine, just today was a bit early for him. Two weeks break is perfect for us. We will be ready for the final, now I am really looking forward to it. We couldn’t think about it as long as we are not in the Champions League next year,” Klopp added.

“This group of players really deserve it. They keep moving to the next level.”

On Mohamed Salah’s record breaking season the German tactician said: “I had no clue about the record [Salah’s 32 goals], I took him off and then I heard that Tottenham had scored five – Harry Kane could have got them all!

“He has been brilliant, and he can improve so much. He will score in the future, 100%.

“When everyone tells you you are fantastic all season it is hard to stay on track so I am pleased with Mo Salah. Congratulations to Man City, it is incredible to get 100 points, thoroughly deserved. We need more consistency to challenge and a little bit more luck with injuries.

“But we have got a lot of experience from this season. We have matured and we will do that again. In our good moments it is not easy to play better football. We will add to the squad, we need more players but I’m a big believer in developing the team. These boys made a big step.”

Mohamed Salah set a new Premier League record of 32 goals in a 38-game season to guarantee Liverpool’s place back in the Champions League next season by beating Brighton 4-0 at Anfield on Sunday.

Victory for Liverpool meant it didn’t matter what fifth-placed Chelsea did at Newcastle, but they failed to put any sort of pressure on the Champions League finalists by succumbing limply to a 3-0 defeat at St. James’s Park.

At the other end of the table, Swansea’s seven-season stay in the Premier League came to an end as they joined West Brom and Stoke City in being relegated to the Championship.

Needing to beat Stoke, Southampton to lose to Manchester City and a 10-goal swing in goal difference in their favour, Swansea failed to even sign off with a win as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Stoke.

Liverpool are aiming for a sixth European Cup when they face the might of Real Madrid in the Champions League final on May 26.

But Jurgen Klopp’s men know even if they fall short in Kiev, they will be back in the Champions League next season as they blew Brighton away.

Salah eased any nerves by swivelling to strike his first goal in four games on 26 minutes to take his tally in all competitions this season to 44.

Dejan Lovren made the game safe with a towering header just before half-time and Salah then turned provider for Dominic Solanke to slam home his first Liverpool goal.

Liverpool were allowed to rest easy with Salah and Sadio Mane withdrawn before Andy Robertson added a fourth.

Chelsea gave themselves no chance of usurping Liverpool into fourth as they slumped to a 10th Premier League defeat of the season in the north-east.

Dwight Gayle and two goals for Ayoze Perez piled ever more pressure on Chelsea boss Antonio Conte just six days ahead of what could be the Italian’s final game in charge in the FA Cup final against Manchester United.

Champions Manchester City have broken the Premier League record for wins, points and goals this season and set another landmark by becoming the first side in English top-flight history to reach 100 points as Gabriel Jesus struck a dramatic late winner to beat Southampton 1-0.

That also meant City set record Premier League margin of victory of 19 points from Manchester United, who won 1-0 over Watford at Old Trafford.

England manager Gareth Southgate will name his World Cup squad later this week, and there was plenty of encouragement for Southgate as his three of his strikers were on target.

Marcus Rashford scored his first goal since March for United’s winner, whilst Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane both struck twice at Wembley as Tottenham came from 3-1 down to beat Leicester 5-4 and hold off Liverpool to finish third.

Kane cancelled out Vardy’s early opener before Riyad Mahrez restored Leicester’s lead and Kelechi Iheanacho’s smashed home a third for the visitors early in the second-half.

Erik Lamela scored twice and saw another effort deflect in off Christian Fuchs for an own goal to put Spurs in front before Vardy levelled with his 20th league goal of the campaign.

However, Kane had the final say with his 41st of the season to head to the World Cup in fine form.

Arsenal gave Arsene Wenger a parting gift in his final game as manager after 22 years in charge by winning their first points away from home in the Premier League in 2018 with a 1-0 win at Huddersfield.

Club record signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted his 10th goal in 13 games since joining in January by finishing off the sort of free-flowing move that Wenger has made his trademark as Gunners boss.

Mohamed Salah scored a record-breaking 32nd goal of the Premier League season on Sunday as the Liverpool star set a new mark for the most goals in a 38-game campaign.

Salah went into the last day of the season at Anfield with a share of the record alongside Alan Shearer (Blackburn in 1995-96), Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United in 2007-08) and Luis Suarez (Liverpool in 2013-14).

But the Egypt forward needed only 26 minutes to make the record his personal property as he produced a clinical left-footed finish from inside the Brighton penalty area.

Salah, who was voted the Premier League’s Player of the Year earlier in the day, has now scored 44 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this season.

Shearer (Newcastle in 1993-94) and Andy Cole (Manchester United in 1993-94) jointly hold the Premier League record of 34 goals in a 42-match season.

Mohamed Salah has scooped up yet another award after his fabulous first season with Liverpool as the Egypt star was named the Premier League’s Player of the Year on Sunday.

Salah had already won the PFA Player of the Year voted for by his fellow players, as well as the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award and Liverpool’s own Player of the Year prize.

The 25-year-old’s deluge of individual honours come at the end of a season in which he has scored 31 goals in 37 league matches following his move from Roma last year.

Salah will break the Premier League record of 31 goals in a 38-game season if he scores against Brighton on Sunday.

He has scored 43 goals in 50 games in all competitions for Liverpool this term.

“They say I didn’t have success here the first time,” Salah said.

“So it was always in my mind to have success here in the Premier League. I am very happy. I am very proud to win it.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has officially been named as EA Sport’s Premier League player of the season.

The 25 year old arrived at Anfield after two fantastic years in Italy with AS Roma.

Salah has scored 31 goals this season and today could break the Premier League record for most goals scored in a 38 game season if he nets against Brighton at Anfield.

Salah has now won the PFA player of the year, FWA player of the year and Premier League player of the year.

“It was always in my mind to have success in the Premier League”

Speaking to the Premier League’s official website, Salah explained that he was determined to be successful in the Premier League after his miserable stint at Chelsea.

Salah said: “I am very happy, I am very proud to win it. They say I didn’t have success here the first time, so it was always in my mind to have success here in the Premier League.”

Salah arrived at Stamford Bridge in January 2014 but lasted just 12 months in West London.

The Egyptian scored 2 goals in 19 appearances for the Blues before moving on to Serie A.

Despite not winning the title this season, Salah has certainly silenced his critics by scoring so many goals and embarrassing countless defenders.

Tough competition

Salah won the award ahead of Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling, Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Manchester United’s David De Gea and Burnley’s James Tarkowski.

De Bruyne and Sterling helped guide City to their third Premier League title whilst David De Gea won the Golden glove.

Salah has done tremendously well to out-score Harry Kane who has won the Golden Boot on each of the last two seasons.

What Mohamed Salah still has to prove…

Salah now has three tough tasks for the next few months:

1) Help Liverpool win the Champions League
2) Help Egypt succeed at their first World Cup since 1990
3) Prove he is not a one-season wonder in the Premier League next season

Egypt and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been named EA SPORTS Premier League Player of the Season.

The award which was announced on the Premier League’s official website on Sunday means Salah becomes the first African to achieve the feat.

The Premier League Player of the Season is an annual award presented to players in England, which recognises the most outstanding player in the Premier League each season.

Salah topped a shortlist including Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling , David De Gea of Manchester United , Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley’s James Tarkowski .

He won the award by receiving the most combined votes from a panel of experts, Premier League captains and fans via a public vote.

It has been a remarkable season for Salah following a return to the Premier League after a forgettable first spell with Chelsea in the 2013/2014 campaign.

His 31 goals make him the joint-highest scorer in a 38-match season, a record he can hold outright if he scores against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.

The Egyptian also became the first African to breach the 30-goal mark in a single campaign, and the only man to win three EA SPORTS Player of the Month awards in the same season.

Speaking on his latest award, Salah said: “I am very happy, I am very proud to win it.

“They say I didn’t have success here the first time, so it was always in my mind to have success here in the Premier League.”

His EA SPORTS award adds to the individual honours Salah won from the Professional Football Association (PFA) and the Football Writers Association this season.

He was also named 2017 CAF and BBC African Footballer of the Year.

Mohamed Salah’s incredible Fantasy Premier League season

Up until his recent poor form, Mohamed Salah looked likely to smash the all-time highest Fantasy Premier League points scorer in one season.

As it stands, ahead of Liverpool’s home clash with Brighton, Mo Salah is on 292 points for 2017/2018.

The record is held by Luis Suarez on 295 points and simply a 60-minute performance today at home to Brighton, a clean sheet and no cards, will see Salah level up with the Uruguayan.

Most likely, Salah will bag a goal and/or assist and smash past the 300-point barrier for the first time in Fantasy Premier League history.

Who is in Mo Salah’s Fantasy Premier League team?

Just as we hit the last week of the Premier League season, Mo Salah has revealed who is in his Fantasy Premier League team.

This came in an interview on Egyptian TV and Salah revealed the following (Via Reddit FPL):

Salah: “I have Courtois and Hegazi, had Elneny but sold him. I’ve also got Firmino, Mane, Vardy, Matic, Hazard, and De Bruyne. I also own myself.”

Hazard & Salah Swap shirts

Hazard & Salah Swap shirts

Egypt, Liverpool & ex-Chelsea team mates

It is not hard to put together a clear theme here of how Salah built his FPL side.

First off, the Egyptians, his international team mates – Ahmed Hegazi and Mohamed Elneny – are included.

Then comes Salah’s front line partners at Liverpool: Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Whilst there are plenty of Salah’s team mates from his time at Chelsea, including Thibaut Courtois, Nemanja Matic and Kevin De Bruyne as well as Eden Hazard.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Jamie Vardy is included, which means for Salah there is likely no place for Golden Boot rival Harry Kane.
