Newcastle fans go viral following Chelsea loss (Video)

The travelling contingent of Newcastle supporters who made the trip to London for their side’s FA Cup clash with Chelsea have gone viral across social media this evening.

Matchup

Chelsea welcomed Rafael Benitez’s men to Stamford Bridge earlier today, having managed just 2 wins from their previous 7 across all competitions (1 of which came via penalties vs Norwich).

Further pressure was piled on already under-fire Chelsea boss Antonio Conte when his side were ousted from the Carabao Cup by London rivals Arsenal during the week, making the need for a win this afternoon even greater for the hosts.

Newcastle, meanwhile, had their 4-match unbeaten run snapped by runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City last weekend.

Teams

Comfortable

Despite coming into proceedings on the back of a hugely-disappointing recent run of form, hosts Chelsea made short work of Newcastle this afternoon, with a brace from Michy Batshuayi followed by a stunning Marcos Alonso free-kick to send the Blues into the FA Cup’s 5th round.

Scenes in the stands

While the action on the pitch didn’t provide the travelling contingent of Newcastle fans with too much to get excited about, a video going viral online this evening has showcased the fact that the Magpies’ faithful are quite adept at entertaining themselves:

Iyabo Obasanjo Endorses Father’s Letter To Buhari

Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, former senator and daughter of Olusegun Obasanjo, former president of Nigeria, has urged the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to urgently focus on the contents of her Father’s acerbic letter to Buhari asking him not to contest for election in 2019, stating that she endorsed the letter.

According to a report by Daily Trust, the former Senator also asked Buhari’s supporters not to use the once frosty relationship she had with her father to trend a letter written by her to her father in 2013.

In a statement released on Saturday, January 27, 2018, the former senator said; “I am surprised that agents of the current administration who should benefit from the advice and admonishment of one of the most brilliant leaders to ever emerge in modern Africa have resorted to a cheap tactic that further reiterates the message that they found abhorrent enough to start looking for unconnected issues to put together to make their point.”

In her four-paragraph statement, Obasanjo-Bello further pointed out that “those who published the old letter should have spent time to respond to the content of the said statement which, among other things, called on President Buhari to join the rank of retired elder statesmen in 2019.”

Victims count losses as fire razes shops, goods in Enugu

Fire

Victims of fire outbreak in Achara Layout, Enugu, are currently counting their losses as their shops and goods were razed down in Enugu on Sunday.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who visited the scene of the incident gathered that the fire broke out at about 11:30 a.m. at No. 51 Igbariam Street in Achara Layout.

NAN observed that seven of the affected shops were temporary shops that were burnt to ashes before men of Enugu State Fire Service prevented the fire from touching a nearly two-storey building.

An eye witness, Miss Regina Uzo, told NAN that the state fire service stopped the fire from moving further in the street.

A community leader at Achara Layout, Chief Edwin Ubochi, also told NAN that the occupants of the shops had all gone to church service when the fire broke out.

“I sympathise with the traders as the fire burnt all their goods completely without a pin being salvaged,’’ Ubochi said.

NAN reports that sympathisers were overwhelmed by the level of damage caused by the fire, the cause of which was yet to be ascertained.

However, three victims of the incident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, lamented bitterly that all they had laboured for had been destroyed by the fire.

The affected victims, however, appealed to the state government and philanthropists to come to their aid. (NAN)

Ebonyi Governor Dave Umahi

Ebonyi state government has sacked six of the Neighbourhood security watch members and suspended salaries of 10 others for incompetence and negligence of duty.

Governor Umahi had last year constituted special security group identified as Neighbourhood Security Watch(NSW) to tackle crimes in the state.

But the government said some of the members have not performed and therefore sacked six of the members and suspended salaries of  eleven
others.

Senior Special Adviser to Governor Dave Umahi, Dr. Kenneth Ugbala who announced this in a meeting with the security members said the  state
government will not fold its hands and watch evil prevail  in the state.

He said as part of measures to tackle crimes, the Neighbouhood security watch and vigilante groups  will be repositioned for optimal performance.

Ugbala also ordered for  immediate demobilization of all the sacked members while those whose salaries  were suspended will remain on probation.

According to him, in order to ensure regular monitoring of the members, a 3-man committee headed by a retired police officer has been
constituted.

“We have sacked five neighborhood watch for non-performance and 10 neighbourhood watch will not get salaries from this January which simply means they are under probation and if they did not improve from the month of February, we will drop them and reconstitute the DISCOs they are from and their local governments”, he said.
