Super Eagles forward Victor Moses returned to Chelsea’s starting eleven for his 28th appearance this season.

Going into the the last fixture of the season, Chelsea needed to beat Newcastle and hope Liverpool lose at Anfield to Brighton and Hove Albion.

But it was Newcastle who emerged deserved winners thanks to goals from Dwight Gayle (23rd minute) and Ayoze Perez (59th, 63rd minutes).

The result means Chelsea finished fifth on 70 points and pick up a Europa League ticket.

At Anfield, Liverpool confirmed their place in next season’s Champions League with a convincing 4-0 win against Brighton.

Liverpool’s goals were scored by recently crowned Premier League Player of the Season Mohamed Salah, Dejan Lovren, Dominic Solanke (his first Liverpool goal) and Andrew Robertson in the 26th, 40th, 53rd and 85th minutes respectively.

Salah’s goal against Brighton means he has now broken the record for the most goals scored ever in a 38-match season as he netted his 32nd of the season.

The trio of Alan Shearer (1995-1996), Cristiano Ronaldo (2007-2008) and Luis Suarez (2013-2014) were joint-record holders on 31 goals each.

Liverpool finished the season in fourth on 70 points and earned a Champions League berth.

At the Liberty Stadium, Swansea’s very slim hopes of avoiding relegation were eventually quashed following their 2-1 home loss to already relegated Stoke.

Swansea needed a wide goal margin against Stoke and needed Manchester City to also inflict a heavy defeat on Southampton at St. Mary’s which eventually ended 1-0 in favour of the league champions.

Swansea now join Stoke and West Bromwich Albion as the three relegated teams from the Premier League.

It was a thriller at Wembley Stadium as Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho scored but it was not enough as Tottenham Hotspur edged Leicester City 5-4.

Iheanacho scored a superb long range strike on 48 minutes to put Leicester 3-1 ahead.

Jamie Vardy (4th, 73rd minutes) and Riyad Mahrez (16th minute) were the other scorers for Leicester.

A brace from Harry Kane (seventh, 76th minutes), Erik Lamela (49th, 61st minutes) and an own goal from Christian Fuchs (53rd minute), secured the nine-goal thriller win for Spurs.

Kane’s brace means he finish the Premier League season on 30 goals, two behind Salah.

Spurs ended the season in The third position on 77 points and automatic qualification to the Champions League next season.

Champions Manchester City left it very late as they pipped Southampton 1-0 at St. Mary’s.

Gabriel Jesus’ 90th minute goal ensures City becomes the first side to reach 100 points in the Premier League and also the first side to win 32 games in a single English top-flight campaign.

Arsenal eventually picked their first away points in 2018 following a hard-fought 1-0 win aat Huddersfield Town in Arsene Wenger’s final game in charge.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the only goal for Arsenal in the 38th minute off an assist from Aaron Ramsey.

Alex Iwobi made his 26th appearance for Arsenal in the game against Huddersfield.

Arsenal ended the season in sixth on 63 points and join Chelsea as qualifiers for next season’s Europa League.

At Old Trafford, Manchester United beat Watford 1-0 in what was Michael Carrick’s final game before retiring from professional football.

Marcus Rashford’s 34th minute goal made sure United sealed a last day win.

In other results on the final day of the season, West Ham beat visiting Everton 3-1, Crystal Palace signed out with a 2-0 win against already relegated West Bromwich Albion while Bournemouth beat Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor.

Niger forward Victor Moses is looking forward to Chelsea’s decisive final day English Premier League clash against Newcastle United on Sunday, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.

The Blues who won the title last season are in danger of missing out on a place in the Champions League next term following a disappointing campaign.

Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Huddersfield at the Stamford Bridge further cast doubts on their chance of moving into the four.

Antonio Conte’s men, who occupy the fifth position in the table, are two points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.

They will need the Reds to lose their home game against Brighton and also ensure they beat Newcastle United to secure a top four place.

Moses, Hazard, Willian Model Chelsea New Home Kit

Super Eagles forward Victor Moses was one of four key players who modelled Chelsea’s new home kit for the 2018/19

Super Eagles forward Victor Moses was one of four key players who modelled Chelsea’s new home kit for the 2018/19 season.

The new kit was announced on Chelsea’s official website on Friday.

The other three players who also modelled the new kit were Eden Hazard, Cesar Azpilicuerta and Willian.

A statement on Chelsea’s website on the kit launching reads: “The new kit takes inspiration from the famous and much-loved jerseys of the 1980s and 90s. Flashes of colour light up the shirt, with dazzling horizontal red and white lines vibrantly standing out against the famous Chelsea blue. The jersey is complemented by the traditional blue shorts and white socks, brightened by a horizontal red and blue trim at the knee.

“Meanwhile, two subtle inner pride features ensure this kit is fulsome with Chelsea pride and heritage. High up on the back of the neckline of the shirt sits a small lion, an instantly recognisable symbol borrowed from the club crest. Inside the jersey, the words ‘Blue is the Colour’ can be found, the opening line from the Chelsea anthem.

“As well as the men’s team, both the Chelsea Academy and Ladies teams will wear the new kit throughout the 2018/19 season.

“The new kit will be worn for the first time this Sunday 13 May in our final league game of the season against Newcastle and is available at nike.com/chelsea and the Stamford Bridge Megastore now.”

Super Eagles star Victor Moses has received high marks for his stellar showing in Chelsea’s 1-0 Premier League win over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge
on Sunday.

Moses delivered the cross that led to Olivier Giroud’s header in the first half which eventually sealed the important victory.

With the win, Chelsea got themselves back into the race for a top four finish and a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The deposed champions are still fifth but within only three points of third-placed Liverpool who have played a game more. Chelsea have 69 points from 36 games while Liverpool have 72 from 37 games. Fourth-placed Tottenham have 71 points from 36 matches, making for a tense finish to the race.

Moses, who bagged his fourth assist of the season in his 27th league game of the season playing as a wing-back, got the second highest marks among the 22 starters from the authoritative Independent and one of the highest from the tabloid Daily Star.

The Independent graded Moses eight out of 10 and described his performance as ‘excellent’.

“Moses hasn’t reached the heights of last season but he was imposing against an opposite number who has received a lot of praise this season,” the Independent wrote.
“Excellent work for the goal, he was a threat throughout the game with his wing play and crossing.”

Only Eden Hazard received a higher rating than the Super eagles star with nine over 10, while scorer Giroud also got eight. N’Golo Kante got six.

The Daily Star rated Moses seven out of 10, but gave Hazard, Kante and Giroud eight each.

Moses, who had a brilliant qualifying campaign, is expected to be one of Nigeria’s top players at the Russia 2018 World Cup in June.

Azpilicueta 7

Cahill 6

Rudiger 6

MOSES 8

Fabregas 7

Iwobi, Moses Sparkle As Arsenal Send Wenger Off In Style, Chelsea Edge Liverpool

By Johnny Edward:

By Johnny Edward:                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Victor Moses provided an assist on his 24th English Premier League start for Chelsea this season as they defeated Liverpool 1-0 at Stamford Bridge to boost their chances of a top four finish, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The win moved Chelsea, with 69 points, to within three points of third-placed Liverpool and two behind Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool have only one game left while Chelsea and Spurs each have two.

Oliver Giroud put Chelsea in front, heading in Moses’ fine cross from the right flank in the 32nd minute. It was Giroud’s third league goal in 11 appearances for Chelsea since he joined the club from Arsenal in January and his fifth goal in his last six EPL starts against Liverpool.

It was Moses’ third assist this season.

At the start of the second half, Chelsea raced out and they were unlucky not to have doubled their lead as Antonio Rudiger’s goal in the 57th minute was correctly ruled out for offside.

Liverpool continued to press for the equaliser but could not break down the Chelsea’s defence, succumbing to a third defeat in 27 games. The Reds are without a win in their last three EPL games.

Moses was cautioned by Mike Taylor in the 81st minute and seven minutes later the Nigerian international was subbed off for Davide Zappacosta.

At the Emirates, Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi ended his nine-game goal drought in the EPL when he scored Arsenal’s fourth goal in their 5-0 drubbing of Burnley on Arsene Wenger’s last game in charge of the club at the Emirates Stadium also on Sunday.

Iwobi, making his 20th start of the English Premier League season for Arsenal in the win, last scored a goal against Crystal Palace on the 20th of January.

Goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette in the 14th and 45th minutes gave the Gunners a two-goal lead into the break.

Sead Kolasinac made it 3-0 in the 54th minute, firing in a shot from a tight corner after good work from Jack Wilshere.

Iwobi made it 4-0 in the 64th minute when he rifled in a shot into roof of the net before Aubameyang made it 5-0 for the Gunners who moved six points ahead of the Clarets.
