Former Manchester City star Yaya Toure has refused to rule out a move to rivals Manchester United when he moves this summer.

The player confirmed that he would leave the club in the off-season and has now officially left the club after not renewing his contract.

That means that he is free to join any club and while West Ham have been linked, so have Manchester United.

When asked about Michael Carrick and whether he could even be a replacement for him, Yaya was coy over a move.

‘Yeah, he just left. Let’s see, let’s see,’ he explained to the Manchester Evening News

‘I don’t rule big teams out. The big teams are very important for me. What they want to achieve, the way they want to go, for me is very important.

I want to go somewhere I can win and achieve. It’s going to be hard one day to play against City, but I have to do that. It is part of my job.’

Admiration

Yaya has also been talking about rival midfielder Paul Pogba.

The Ivorian is a very big fan of the Frenchman and has explained that the media treat him unfairly.

‘I love Paul Pogba,’ he explained.

‘It’s difficult because of the way the media has treated him. We don’t have the same characteristics because for me I was involved in all the ball, I ran everywhere.

‘I liked that. I was prepared for that. I was working for that for a long time. When I was in the academy in Africa I had to run everywhere, get box to box in 50 seconds. It’s something I’ve been loving to do.

‘Pogba is the same size, power – but different in the way he wants to go. Technically as well, the ability to score goals as well. It is a player I want to play with, to be honest, just to teach him some things.’

Tough task

Former Chelsea star Frank Lampard has revealed the five toughest midfielders he had to face in the Premier League during his career.

The Englishman was one of the most feared central players there was for a number of years and was known for his goalscoring threat.

Though, during his time in the English top flight, there have been some incredible midfielders playing in the league.

That has lead to a fair few rivalries between Lampard and some of them but he has named one shock player in his top five.

That comes in the form of Yaya Toure who will leave Manchester City this summer having fallen down the pecking order.

Lampard has explained that while the Ivorian was at the peak of his powers, he could ‘change games on his own’.

The former Chelsea man also revealed that the best midfielder he ever faced was his England teammate Steven Gerrard.

“I would put Yaya Toure in the top five of the toughest midfield opponents I faced in my career, as at his peak he could change games on his own,” Lampard explained to the BBC.

“Steven Gerrard probably edges it as the best I have played against, for his consistency over the years, but Yaya is up there along with Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira and Paul Scholes – which shows how highly I rate him.”

That would certainly be one hell of a midfield if you put them all in one team!

Yaya Toure prepares to leave Manchester City

On Sunday, Yaya Toure did not get to play at the Etihad for Manchester City as the Premier League champions drew 0-0 with Huddersfield.

It seems almost certain that Toure will get some minutes when Manchester City host Brighton on Wednesday night at The Etihad.

This will mark Toure’s final game at The Etihad, with Manchester City playing at Southampton on Sunday.

Toure has been an incredible servant for Manchester City over the past eight years and at one stage was the best midfielder in the Premier League.

Yaya Toure’s final Manchester City interview

On Tuesday, Manchester City published Yaya Toure’s final interview with Manchester City on YouTube.

Toure jokes that he only joined Manchester City for money but has established himself and the club since arriving from Barcelona.

The Ivory Coast midfielder talks about Manchester City’s FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester United in 2011.

Toure also discusses the famous Manchester City 6-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

And, what it was like to play with Mario Balotelli. Of course, Toure discusses what it was like to play in the game when Manchester City won the title for the first time in 44 years.

Pep Guardiola on Yaya Toure

Ahead of the clash with Brighton in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola has dedicated the match to Yaya Toure.

Guardiola: “Yaya Toure has helped make the club bigger and bigger and bigger. He is and was one of the most important players in the whole history. He helped this club step forward hopefully we can play a good game and dedicate it to him.”

Guardiola Plans ‘Beautiful Farewell’ For Yaya Toure

Pep Guardiola has confirmed long-serving midfielder Yaya Toure will leave Manchester City next month after eight successful seasons with the Premier League champions.

The Ivory Coast international turns 35 on the last day of the current campaign and has been a key part of City’s rise to prominence under their wealthy Abu Dhabi owners.

Toure is out of contract at the end of the season and, as had been widely expected, he will not be offered a new deal by Guardiola.

The City manager was adamant, however, that Toure will receive a memorable send-off when the club end their home campaign against Brighton next week, an indication of his contribution to the cause over nearly a decade.

Even though he has found his opportunities scaled down this season, having been limited to nine appearances off the bench in the Blues’ title-winning campaign, Toure will still qualify for his third Premier League winner’s medal.

“He will not stay after this season,” Guardiola said on Friday. “The Brighton game we will give him what he deserves. One of the most beautiful farewells a player can receive.

“We will be focused on winning the game against Brighton for Yaya, and we are going to try to do it for him.”

Toure’s spell with City, since signing from Barcelona for £24 million ($32 million, 27 million euros) in July 2010, has seen him win with three League Cups and an FA Cup, in addition to his trio of Premier League crowns.

But Guardiola said his influence extended far beyond simple on-field success.

“We have amazing facilities but the club became what they did because of the players,” he explained.

“Yaya Toure came here when this idea for the club started, and what we are in this moment is thanks to what this guy has done. We cannot forget the period from Roberto Mancini, and especially Manuel Pellegrini.

“Yaya was the key, key, key, key, key, key player. That’s why we are delighted to prepare for Sunday’s game, for our celebration, and after for Yaya.”

Guardiola will finally get his hands on the Premier League trophy following the league game with struggling Huddersfield on Sunday.

England is the third different country in which he has led a club to the league title following successes in Spain and Germany with Barcelona and Bayern Munich respectively.

But the goal of winning the Champions League proved beyond City this season, although Guardiola insisted he felt no frustration this week when their quarter-final conquerors, Liverpool, reached the final.

“Believe me, I’d like to be in the final of the Champions League, a lot,” said Guardiola.

“But Liverpool deserve to be there and Real Madrid (their opponents in the final).

“It’s not about the different competitions, the Premier League is about consistency.

“In cup games, anything can happen. We lost against Wigan in the FA Cup.”

Bitter farewell

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Yaya Toure will leave the club this summer after spending most of the season on the bench.

The Ivorian midfielder has been one of the driving forces of the Etihad side for several years but has not seen eye to eye with Guardiola.

The player did not get on with him so well when he was at Barcelona and eventually left the club for City.

Though, it seems to be a repeat of that situation as the player looks set to leave after losing his place in the first team.

Second choice

There is no doubt that Yaya is a brilliant player, but Manchester City’s side has been filled with incredible central players.

With the player now 34-years-old, Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho have been certain starters for the side, with one space open for rotation.

Having only started 5 games this season, with none in the Premier League, the writing was on the wall for Toure.

“He will not stay after this season,” explained Guardiola in his press conference

“At the Brighton game we are going to make what he deserves, one of the most beautiful farewells he deserves.

“All that game we will be focused on winning the game against Brighton for Yaya because we cannot forget.

“We have amazing facilities, but the club got higher and higher because of the players.

“Yaya came here when they started this idea of the club and what we are now is thanks to this guy and what he has done.

“We cannot forget under Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini, Yaya was the key, key, key player and that’s why we are delighted to do this for Yaya.”

Guardiola Confirms Toure’s City Exit, Targets More EPL Records

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that the club’s Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure will leave at the end of

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that the club’s Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure will leave at the end of the current season.

Toure, 34, joined City from Spanish giants Barcelona in 2010 and has enjoyed a remarkable career, winning two Premier League titles prior to this season and scoring the winner when they beat Stoke City in the 2011 FA Cup final.

But he has rarely featured for the recently crowned Premier League champions this season with Guardiola preferring the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, Fernandinho and David Silva in midfield.

Guardiola confirmed Toure will play his final City game against Brighton next Wednesday.

“Yaya Toure is not going to stay next season. The Brighton game, we will focus on winning and Yaya. We are going to try and win the game for him,” Guardiola said during his pre-match conference ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Huddersfield.

“Yaya came here at the start of the journey. Where we are now is because of what he has done. He was a key player for Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini.”

Guardiola’s men who have already dethroned Chelsea will break a number of records with a win against the Terriers.

Last weekend’s 4-1 win against West Ham United was their 30th of the season and saw them equalled the same number racked up by Chelsea in a single last term and a win against Huddersfield will see them set a new record of 31.

They have scored 102, goals just one short of the Premier League best set by Chelsea in the 2009/2010 season, and are poised to shatter that record.

Also currently on 93 points, they are within three points of breaking Chelsea’s points tally of 95 set in the 2004/2005 season.

“What we have to think about is winning another game when that happens we will break huge records. But the target is to play good. We are here for 10 months fighting every week to do this,” he stated.

“When you are champions you have more courage. The title belongs to us.

“Next season we start on zero but the signs are good. We want to improve, next season. We start again. But it’s a good thing for us.”

Manchester City Midfielder, Yaya Toure, said on Thursday he won’t play for the Ivory Coast during the international break due to “family reasons”.

The 34-year-old will miss Friday’s friendly with Togo and the game against Moldova on Monday in France despite having come out of international retirement last December.

“Sadly, I will not be able to take part in Ivory Coast’s matches during the international week. My family needs me at this moment and I hope the fans will understand,” Toure wrote on Twitter.

“I wish the team the best,” added the 100-times capped star.

On Tuesday, the Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF) said it had “no news” of the whereabouts of four-time African Player of the Year Toure, who did not turn up for training.

The Ivory Coast failed to qualify for the World Cup.

Yaya Toure could be Man City’s greatest of all time but is set for sad ending

What could have been

One journalist has claimed that midfielder Yaya Toure could have been a Manchester City great but be seen as that for one reason.

The Ivorian was once the driving force behind Man City’s transformation and was considered one of the best players in the Premier League.

Though, it’s been a very different story since Pep Guardiola became a factor.

While Man City are still thriving with Toure, there is no doubt that it’s not been great for the midfielder.

Several falling outs have occurred and now he plays a bit part role, with only six starts this season.

With the player set to also miss out on a spot in the Carabao Cup final side, Mirror journalist Simon Mullock has claimed that Toure has been great but his end at the Etihad will not be recognised that way.

He claims:

Yet, in City’s most successful era, Toure has been their talisman. Especially at Wembley.

In the games Toure has featured in, he has been unable to recapture his best form after spending so much time on the bench.

And he hasn’t played since he was substituted in the 2-1 Carabao Cup semi-final win over Bristol City in early January.

Last May, when Pablo Zabaleta announced his intention to leave the Etihad, the Argentine was given a grand farewell that even saw chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak jet in from Abu Dhabi to present him with an expensive solid gold watch.

It’s unlikely that Toure will be afforded the same kind of tribute.
